Malibu City Council Honors Former Interim City Manager Candace Bond for Post-Fire Leadership

At its Monday, March 23 meeting, the Malibu City Council presented a commendation to former Interim City Manager Candace Bond, recognizing her leadership and dedicated service following the 2025 Palisades Fire.

Councilmembers praised Bond for stepping into the role during a critical time, guiding recovery efforts with both compassion and decisiveness.


The commendation highlighted her instrumental role in:

  • Advancing key recovery initiatives and supporting the City’s rebuild work.
  • Advocating for Malibu’s needs at the state level.
  • Ensuring that resident support remained at the center of the City’s emergency response.

The City’s Fire Safety Liaisons are available to provide free Home Hardening Assessments against wildfires, offering personalized guidance on home hardening and vegetation management. These assessments are a vital tool in making your property more resilient to future wildfire risks.

ULI Los Angeles x Pepperdine University: Malibu Rebuilding Post-Wildfire Summit

1:30-4:00 PM at Wilburn Auditorium, Pepperdine University


ULI Los Angeles and Pepperdine University will convene leaders across planning, policy, finance, and development for a timely conversation on rebuilding Malibu after wildfire. The Summit will explore strategies to strengthen community resilience while addressing the complex realities of rebuilding in fire-prone areas.

Fire Rebuild Design Professionals Meeting

11:30 AM-1:00 PM at Malibu City Hall


City staff will host a meeting with local design professionals to provide updates on permitting, construction, and recovery support programs. The session will include a Q&A, offering attendees an opportunity to ask questions and share feedback directly with staff.

March 24 Fire Rebuild Community Meeting 


Community Development Director Yolanda Bundy and Assistant Director Tyler Eaton hosted a meeting for Malibu families navigating the fire rebuild process. Longtime resident and Las Flores Zone Captain Carl Randall, along with his architect Sam Marshall with Nymbl Architecture, shared personal insights, guidance, and recommendations to help provide clarity and encouragement.


City staff also provided updates on permitting progress, the optional on-site consultation program, and available resources from the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the LA County Assessor’s Office at the Rebuild Center.

March 25 and April 1 Zone Captains Meetings

On Wednesday, March 25, the Community Development Department met with Zone Captains to strengthen neighborhood-level collaboration, focusing on new ideas to support progress across all fire-affected areas. The meeting included a review of the Tuesday, March 24 community meeting and feedback from rebuild families, as well as a status report on the latest rebuild milestones and neighborhood-specific roadblocks.


On Wednesday, April 1, Community Development Director Yolanda Bundy and Assistant Director Tyler Eaton met with Zone Captains to strengthen teamwork and elevate ideas that support continued progress in fire-affected neighborhoods. Staff shared the latest updates on the permitting progress and addressed community questions about recovery efforts specific to each neighborhood.


Fire rebuild homeowners are encouraged to connect with their Zone Captain or visit the Rebuild Center for guidance and support throughout the rebuilding process.
