From the Desk of Fr. Mike Nacius, Pastor
-------We enter into the holiest week of the year, in prayer. We gather hearing of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Then, we hear the Passion of Jesus, crying out as members of the crowd in Jerusalem yell, “crucify him, crucify him.” Pilate asks the crowds who do you want? The crowds cry out “Barabbas.”

-------This week we call holy, may we cry out for Jesus, may we walk with Jesus, and may we trust in Jesus and in Jesus’ promise to everlasting life.

-------It is important that we take time to learn and prayerfully enter into the three sacred days of the Sacred Paschal Triduum. Might we put a pause on most activities of our busy and hectic lives so we can participate in the Sacred Paschal Triduum? The following reflections are taken from the 2023 Sourcebook, An Almanac for Pastoral Liturgy published by Liturgy Training Publications:

-------“The Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday – This liturgy celebrates the institution of the Eucharist and of the ordained priesthood, which are the means by which God continues to bring people of faith more deeply into the dynamic of the Father’s gift of the incarnate Word and the Spirit-filled response of Jesus’ opening himself in love of God and his neighbor.”

-------“The Passion of the Lord on Good Friday – On Good Friday, we journey with the Lord, the innocent servant of God, who has taken our sins upon himself as he walks the path to Calvary. Through this liturgy, we share in Jesus’ faith and love and participate in the self-opening to the Father’s love.”

-------“The Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday – Shattering the darkness, the great Paschal candle is lit with the Easter fire, five wax nails with incense are embedded, and it becomes the symbol of the crucified Christ. The Paschal mystery, already celebrated in various ways since the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, is clearly and joyfully announced from the very beginning of the Vigil liturgy. It is in the light of the Paschal candle that the liturgy continues to unfold. The Easter Vigil is the most beautiful of all liturgies. Ranking highest among the celebrations of the liturgical year, it should rank highest in the spiritual life of the parish community. Not a small task in places where Christmas is considered the high point.”

-------Consider - might we put a pause on most activities of our lives so we can faithfully and prayerfully participate in the Sacred Paschal Triduum?

-------For forty days we have prayed, fasted, and offered alms. We do so to deepen and celebrate our relationship and identity with Christ Jesus. It is his modeling sacrificial love that inspires us in our faith life. During the Holy Triduum we move from the penitential fasting of Lent to Paschal fasting. Rather fasting from, as we do in Lent, we fast in anticipation of the great victory of Jesus’ victory over death and his resurrection. It is a joyful and a hopeful practice of fasting preparing us for Easter joy.

-------The artisans and craftsmen have been diligently working on enlarging the baptismal font. As of the printing of this bulletin, we do not know if the east doors of the church will be open for Palm Sunday or Easter Sunday. Please follow all signs directing parishioners and guests as they gather in prayer in the coming weeks.

-------On Easter Sunday we will be welcoming family members, parishioners, guests, and visitors to the parish to proclaim the Resurrection. In addition to the scheduled 8:00am, 10:00am, and 12:00 Noon Masses in the church, we will be having an overflow Mass in the gym at 10:00am and 12:00 Noon. The tomb will be empty and we pray the church and gym will be filled with joyful people of faith.

-------Thank you for sharing faith as well as your generosity to the Church of St. Mary with a gift in the offertory at Easter.

-------Guided by God’s grace throughout Lent, may our hearts be open to God’s grace this Holy Week,
