What's Happening this week: Live Your Dream Award Presentations

Message from President Billie Araiza
Greetings!

I hope everyone is getting to enjoy this beautiful weather. Speaking of beautiful outdoor weather, we will have our end-of-the-year SI Chico club celebration at Merlo Park on May 16, 2021, so please add it to your calendars. Our club paid to rent Merlo Park last year for our installation of officers, but due to COVID-19 and all the wildfires, we were not able to have an in-person installation last year. Merlo Park was kind enough to move our reservation to May 16th of this year. There will be more information on this coming soon.

It was exciting to have so many people at our Awards presentation last Wednesday. As always, the Giving Committee did a great job selecting very worthy award recipients. It’s such a joy to learn about the awardees and see how our scholarships are helping them to reach their future goals. The award recipients were very gracious to be acknowledged for their efforts.

The 45th annual SNR Conference is April 30 - May 2, 2021. Registration is now open and because it’s online, it’s free this year. Everyone has the opportunity to attend this year’s conference from the comfort of their own home. One of our SI Chico award recipients from this year will be recognized at the conference, so be sure to attend and help celebrate her achievements. (Hint: Did any of you watch Jeopardy last week? The North Valley Community Foundation was the recipient of $236,725 from Jeopardy).

Joyce emailed out the Signup Genius for members to sign up to deliver meals to Jeanne Neveau-Smith. She had back surgery and should be home recovering this Friday. This is a good opportunity to help one of our members when she needs us the most. If you haven’t had a chance to sign up yet, you can scroll down in the eblast for the link and sign up now.

Be sure to join us for this week’s Live Your Dream awards presentation on Zoom, Wednesday at noon. Rosie Potestio will be introducing this year’s award recipients. Please sign in 5 - 10 minutes early so we can start our awards presentation on time.

With Gratitude,

President Billie

Alexa Benson-Valavanis, winner of SI Chico’s Ruby Award: Women Helping Women, has been chosen the Ruby Award winner by the Sierra-Nevada Region!

Our club is beyond grateful for this recognition of Alexa’s charitable work at the North Valley Community Foundation, where she has served as president and CEO since 2005 and delighted that she will be recognized more widely through this award.

Under Alexa’s leadership NVCF has grown from serving a dozen clients to more than 500 and generated revenue of over $175 million, soon to be increased by the foundation’s partnership with Aaron Rodgers, whose donation from guest hosting Jeopardy! will go directly to supporting small businesses in our area.

After the Camp Fire Alexa transformed the foundation into the lead philanthropic organization to support relief and recovery efforts, and in the last year built a COVID-19 response arm to slow the pandemic and provide relief to at-risk populations. To date NVCF has granted more than $36 million for wildfire recovery and $1.2 million for COVID-19 response.

Alexa runs a predominantly women-staffed operation with her grounding as a wife and mother. Unconditional love is the heart of everything she believes and strives for, finding and harnessing the inherent good in humanity. What an amazing role model for all of us!

Alexa will receive her award and speak at the SNR Conference on Sunday, May 2, at around 9:45 am, on Zoom. Let’s be there to celebrate with her and our fellow SI Chico members! You can register for the conference by clicking here
