St. Mark's Circle of Welcome

The Ihsas Family
Last week, we were informed that our wonderful Ihsas Family has chosen to move to Virginia to be close to friends and family. The Circle of Welcome have provided them with resources and confidence to transition to this new country. They have been their life-line in a new country by providing them clothes, groceries, toys, books, bicycles, and temporary housing. They were there to get them enrolled in school, transport them to doctor appointments, transport them to ESL classes, provide them with child care, help them purchase their groceries, take them to the park, and much more.
Most importantly, they offered them hope and friendship. They came together as a group with no experience including not only St. Marks' members, but Montreat Presbyterian Church members and community friends.
Thank you to the Circle of Welcome team and the congregation of St. Mark's for helping a family when they were in need and donating your time and energy to this wonderful family!! As we continue to get updates on the families transition and how they are doing, we will make sure to share this information as the Ihsas family will always be a part of the St. Mark's family.

Faith Formation
Beginning Sunday, April 24th
The Racial Healing Team invites you to join us for a 5 week Faith Formation class beginning THIS Sunday, April 24 to discuss Indian Boarding Schools during the Faith Formation hour beginning at 9:45am.
- What are they?
- Who started them?
- How was the church involved?
- Why should we learn about them now?
It will be a challenge to learn things that directly contradict so much of what you have been taught your entire life to be true. We are hoping you join us with a willingness to be open and open-minded for lively conversations in a safe and loving space, where God (Great Spirit) will be at the center of it all. Your middle and high schoolers are also welcome to attend. We will meet in the sanctuary and on zoom, and we look forward to seeing you all there!

WNC Baptist Baby Shower
Sunday, April 24th
The Racial Healing Team is pleased to announce that Irvin Foreman, from WNC Baptist, is a new grandfather! His beautiful daughter, Tameeka, had a healthy baby boy, Matheo (Ma-thee-oh), last month!! Our WNC family is giving Tameeka a small baby shower this Sunday to which you are welcome to go. It is short notice, so if you would like to simply send a card her way, that would also be nice. Right now, we know little Matheo can use diapers and his mom can always use a WalMart gift card for other needs if you would like to send a gift. Please leave anything you would like to give in the welcome center this Sunday and Debbie and Connie can bring it to them. God's peace!
