This workshop meets APT's definition of "Live Webinar"

Description:

Grief is a universal experience requiring adjustment to living with things never being the same after a significant loss. Whether relatively brief or prolonged, the grieving process is accompanied by an intense range of emotions. This webinar will examine what differentiates ordinary grief and loss from trauma and will explore how Sandplay therapy can be helpful in facilitating the grieving process in children and adults. Concepts will be illustrated with Sandplay case material, including those where clients spontaneously created images of altars, memorials, and closure rituals in the sand.

Objectives:

  • Explain at least three criteria that differentiate ordinary grief and loss from trauma
  • Identify at least 3 common symbols associated with grief and loss that commonly appear in Sandplay
  • Explain why a non-verbal, non-directive therapeutic modality is helpful in working through grief and loss
  • Analyze symbolic expression of working through grief in a series of at least 5 consecutive sandtrays
  • Discuss the significance of spontaneously created memorials, altars, or rituals in Sandplay therapy
