Staying Connected with the Citizens of Orem
Mayor's Message
I wanted to take this opportunity to give Orem residents an update on what is happening with UTOPIA.

Many of you know that in December UTOPIA signed a pre-development agreement with Macquarie, a big international firm that manages infrastructure projects. Macquarie has been studying ways that UTOPIA can be built out to reach all the residents in Orem and other member cities. They are also outlining how the partnership between Macquarie and UTOPIA will work if they continue working together, as well as what the costs will be and who will pay for them.

In the next few weeks, Macquarie will report on their findings. Once we receive this information, the city will reach out to residents through the city website, social media, and several neighborhood meetings to discuss the project and answer any questions that residents may have. We will also be sending out a mailer that will include information on neighborhood meeting times and additional details regarding the partnership.

I realize that residents have strong feelings about UTOPIA. I hope that we can all gain a greater understanding of the options going forward and decide what is in the best interest of our community.

Sincerely,
Mayor Richard Brunst

The Great Utah ShakeOutShakeout

On Tuesday, April 17th, at 10:15 a.m., Utah will participate in the largest earthquake drill in state history. The Great Utah ShakeOut will include over 810,000 participants from schools, churches, businesses, community organizations, and families.

You can be a part of this drill by registering for the Great Utah Shakeout online. Even if you don't register, it is helpful to be prepared by understanding earthquake safety tips.

Federal, State, and local emergency management experts and other preparedness officials all agree that "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" is the appropriate action to reduce injury and death during earthquakes. You cannot tell from the initial shaking if an earthquake will suddenly become intense, so always...

  • DROP to the ground,
  • Take COVER by getting under a sturdy desk or table, and
  • HOLD ON to your shelter and be prepared to move with it until the shaking stops.

If you are unable to Drop, Cover, and Hold On, get as low as possible, protect your head and neck, and move away from windows or other items that can fall on you. To participate in the drill, you can register here, or for more safety tips, visit www.dropcoverholdon.org.

This video also contains additional information on how you can prepare for a major earthquake in Utah.
