Out Loud
An Artistic Platform for LGBTQ+ Youth // Upcoming in the ED. Space

Working with local artists and museum staff over the course of ten weeks, nine teens explored contemporary art-making processes and created original artworks that share their unique perspectives on sexual and gender identity, gender expression, and romantic orientation.

These youth view art-making as a meaningful method of communication as well as an opportunity to connect with other members of the queer community. They are inspired to address oppression as they experience it in their own lives and to support and defend the needs and experiences of others. While holding each other accountable for providing an inclusive, safe space for creative action, each artist embraced the chance to learn about performing gender, intersectionality, memory, and more.

THE  STORYTELLING ISSUE

At UMOCA, most of what we do revolves around how we tell stories. Since its founding in 1931, the Museum has worked tirelessly to tell the story of contemporary art: why it's relevant, why it's enriching, why it matters.

Like David Brothers, who made sure that there would be no text in his Rolithica exhibition so that viewers could create their own stories, we aim to make contemporary art personal. This April, we're celebrating the narratives that bring contemporary art to life, and we're inviting and challenging you to rediscover, on your own terms, the joy of art.

Love Utah Give Utah

This Thursday, March 31, Love UT Give UT will bring the Beehive State together in the spirit of community involvement and engagement.

This year, choose to support UMOCA and Salt Lake City's cultural vitality. Together, we can strengthen our state's artistic programming while finding new avenues to express, celebrate, and expand contemporary art to our audiences.

Slow Art Day

Slow Art Day is a worldwide celebration with a simple mission: to help more people slow down and discover for themselves the joy of art.

Contemporary art reflects the present. By taking 5-10 minutes on a single piece of contemporary art, we create a personal connection, narrative, and chance to gain insight not only into the work, but also into the world around us.
