Veterinary Orthopedic Society News
April 2016 - In This Issue:
VOS 2016 conference attendees enjoy the slopes at Big Sky Resort in Montana.

Greetings!

One of the perennial challenges facing VOS is communicating effectively with our members during the year. Communications Chair Katja Lin does a great job with the monthly e-newsletter, but we'll put more information on social media. So like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (@vosdvm) because you are going to want to keep up with the awesome program being prepared for the next meeting in Snowbird, Utah, March 11-18, 2017. The Jacques Jenny Lecturer is Dr. James Stannard; he's a knee trauma specialist at University of Missouri and a retired officer from the 82nd Airborne Division.

Don't worry about the late meeting date. Snowbird averages 41 feet of light lake-effect snow. A lot of that will still be there March 11, and I'll tweet photos of people skiing at Snowbird in July!

Keep an eye on upcoming newsletters for updates on the VOS Educational Foundation. The VOS board will try and do a better job of letting you know how that money is spent, and how your donations help the VOS mission of improving the specialty of orthopedics.

Rich Evans I didn't hear of any major orthopedic injuries among VOS members at Big Sky this year. Big Sky always has our highest attendance. This year, a new record was set and that record is in part thanks to Steve Petersen and Andy Bathe who put together an outstanding program. Andy's off the board now, but Steve has one more year on the board, and I'm sure he'll help work some more magic at Snowbird.

IN MEMORIUM:
BRUCE VAN DYKE

Bruce and Janet Van Dyke
Bruce and Janet Van Dyke at Yellowstone National Park during the 2016 VOS Conference.
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the sudden death on March 16 of Bruce Van Dyke, the beloved husband of Dr. Janet Van Dyke, VOS board member and CEO of the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. Bruce attended many VOS conferences, including the 2016 conference in Big Sky, and was a dear friend of many VOS members.

Bruce and Janet met on Green Turtle Cay, an Out Island of Abaco in the Bahamas, a place they considered their home away from home for more than 25 years. Janet requests that any memorial gifts be directed to Every Child Counts, a non-profit organization that helps children in the Abacos with special needs. This was a cause that was near and dear to Bruce's heart.

Donations may be sent directly to Dr. Janet Van Dyke, 2701 Twin Oaks Way, Wellington, FL, 33414. Checks should be made payable to "The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nassau" with "Every Child Counts/Bruce Van Dyke Transitional Living Fund" on the memo line. Janet will see that the checks are hand-carried to the Bahamas so they get to Every Child Counts as soon as possible.

You can read Bruce Van Dyke's obituary at Legacy.com.

Condolences may be shared in the online guestbook or mailed to Janet at the address above. Janet greatly appreciates the kind messages she has received from friends and colleagues.

thankyousponsorsSPECIAL THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS AND EXHIBITORS!
by Janet Van Dyke and Cheryl Tano
VOS Sponsor and Exhibitor Co-Chairs

We would like to thank all of our generous sponsors and exhibitors who helped to make the 43rd Annual VOS Conference a major success.

A special thank you goes to our 2016 Titanium sponsor, Aratana, for their ongoing support of VOS. We would also like to acknowledge those sponsors who helped us with our "special events" such as our registration reception ( Zoetis), ski race to support the VOS Educational Foundation ( BioMedtrix), the post-race picnic ( Everost), and Foundation Night ( Partners in Veterinary Therapeutics).

This year our proceedings were generously sponsored by NGD, and all abstracts will be published in VCOT, thanks to our friends at Nexvet Biopharma, PLC. Our Jacques Jenny Lecture series was once again supported by DePuy Synthes, our Sports Medicine series was made possible by Purina, and our equine lecture tracks were supported by Sound, Respond Systems, PulseVet, and HOSSO.

VOS also would like to thank OrthoPets, Veterinary Orthopedic Implants, Arthrex Vet Systems, and Epica Medical Innovations for offering hands-on wet labs during the conference.

This conference could not take place without the generous support of all of our sponsors and exhibitors. We hope to see everyone back at our 2017 conference in Snowbird, Utah!
