Exclusive: Brooks City Base to gain 100-plus new health care jobs

Carenet Healthcare Services plans to expand its Brooks City Base facilities to accommodate approximately 115 additional personnel. Carenet CEO  John Erwinsaid the expansion will give the telemed company 7,000 more square feet of space where it can accommodate about 275 workers needed to keep up with growing demand for its services.

Carenet signed its initial lease at Brooks City Base in April 2013 and started construction on its 13,000-square-foot satellite facility soon after. But the company has already outgrown that space.

No bonuses for Abraxas Petroleum executives as losses continue

San Antonio-based oil company  Abraxas Petroleum is gearing up for its May 10 stockholders meeting, but public filings show that its executives did not get bonuses following dismal financial results in 2015.

In their meeting, stockholders with Abraxas Petroleum Corp. (NASDAQ: AXAS) will be handling routine matters such as re-electing three incumbents to the board of directors and voting to re-appoint BDO USA LLP as the company's independent registered public accounting firm.

San Antonio starts ozone season in violation of EPA's stricter standards

Public officials are asking San Antonio businesses to think of new ways to reduce air pollution and to lower the number of cars on the roads following grim news that the Alamo City is violating federal air standards.

The six-month "ozone season" officially started on April 1 but just a few days in, San Antonio is in violation of stricter smog standards set by the  U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last year  settlement.

Paid sick leave rule could make small federal contractors ill

The Department of Labor's proposed regulation requiring federal contractors to provide paid sick leave to their employees could make it harder for small businesses to win government contracts.

Or it could lead to healthier workplaces, improved employee productivity and morale, and an increase in consumer spending.
