Canadian Women finish 5th at World League Round 2
The Canadian Women's National team ended their World League campaign with a 5th place finish at Round 2. The team played some great hockey over the course of the test series and tournament, both held at Rutledge Field in West Vancouver, but ultimately came up a bit short in two pivotal games. Canada lost a very tight 1-0 pool match to Chile, meaning they finished second in their pool and had to go through Quarter-finals instead of advancing straight to the Semi-finals. In the Quarter-finals, Canada lost another close game to Belarus, 4-3, and were unable to finish top 2 and advance to Round 3. It was a heart-breaking way to bow out of contention, but the team can hold it's head high knowing that they played some good games on home turf and have surely inspired the next generation of Canadian field hockey players.
The Women's National team will now focus on preparing the Pan American Cup being held in Pennsylvania in August. This tournament serves as the team's final qualification opportunity for the 2018 World Cup in London, England.
