Pastor's Message
Deeper in Prayer

Prayer has always been an important part of my life. I grew up saying prayers before meals and before bed. I would pray for the people I loved in my life and for great concerns in our church, community, and world. I knew that God heard, I knew that God cared, and even knew that sometimes God answered those prayers. As I have gotten older my life of prayer has continued to grow in my understanding of prayer and in the depth of relationship I have with God through prayer.
During this Lenten season we selected "Draw the Circle: The 40 Day Prayer Challenge" by Mark Batterson as our focus. I had researched it enough that I was excited and expectant about what it could mean for the congregation. What I didn't expect is how much it would challenge and change me. It is really easy to become comfortable in our lives. Comfortable with our family relationships, comfortable with our job, comfortable with what we do for God in the church, community, or world. But every once in a while, we get shaken from our comfort zone and challenged to what God wants to do in us and through us. It is not surprising that this shaking can often come in prayer.
I will admit that over the years of ministry I have at times become discouraged by the direction I see the world going, by natural challenges that we face in the church, and by what I perceived as lack of accomplishment. We gain members and loose members. Programs get started and then loose energy. Now upon deeper reflection I realize that there is much to rejoice over. There is growth in people's lives and ministry happening at many levels. We have many amazing believers of Jesus living lives in deep relationship to God and each other. We are involved in this church, this community, and the world in powerful ways. We should not be discouraged, I should not be discouraged.
Now that being said I think we neither should be content. One of the things that has really stirred my heart most by "Drawing the Circle" is dreaming big, and therefore praying big. I have some very specific things that I believe God has placed on my heart to begin praying for. Some are personal, some are for this church, and some are for the world. These are ideas and prayer that I don't think came from me, but from a higher wisdom and understanding that God has of what needs to happen. None has come to full fruition yet, but I have begun to see glimpses of what God is doing. It is exciting. I am getting excited about what God wants to do and this leads me to want to pray even more.
Whether or not you fully invested in the 40 Day prayer challenge I strongly encourage you to think about your life of prayer and commit to a growing life of prayer. It is the sources of hope and encouragement, the source wisdom and direction, the sources of power and accomplishment. Please join me in listening to God and praying for all the amazing things God wants to do in our lives, our church, our community, and the world. Amen!

See you in church,

Mission Trip to Uganda
Pastor Philip

Have you considered if God might be calling you to a short-term mission trip?  It is an experience like no other.  It opens your eyes to the greater needs of people less fortunate that ourselves.  It opens your eyes to the contentment, joy, and hopefulness of people who have far less.  It opens your eyes to brothers and sisters who may look different and have a far different culture but who share the same love for Jesus that we have.  There are several different times we could consider going.  Thanksgiving break November 19-30, Christmas break December 26-Jan 4, or early summer June 3-14.  These dates are all a general guess but planned around school calendar so you could attend with parents if that would be of interest.  The cost would vary depending on dates selected.  A pretty good estimate of cost for each time would be; November $2500, December $2900, and June $3100.  This would include all major hard expenses; flight, ground transportation, lodging, and food.  Please let pastor know if you would be interested in this trip and which possible times would work for you.  We need to determine if we have enough interest soon so we can begin to make plans.

Safety Mission Team
Paul Mohrmann

To our Brothers and Sisters,

We, the Safety Mission Team, would like to, first, thank all who have stepped forward with time, treasure and talent to address items of security and safety facing Church of the Cross' facilities. It's a start. Presently, Council is receiving consultation pertaining to these safety items: doors, camera, locking mechanisms, etc. These items are for the benefit of LCC and Evergreen Academy's safety and security.

A few cameras have been installed in the classrooms and working through a monitor. Some door issues have been addressed, it's a start. Thanks to Roger H., Orville S. and others for their time, talents and suggestions.
Also, there is a sign-off sheet on the hallway table for those of us who are int erest in CPR and AED training. Please note on the sign-off sheet whether you are current with training or wishing to retrain. Furthermore, any First Aid training would be a helpful note. We are looking forward to acquiring an AED (automated external defibrillator) and one "go pack" to go along with trained volunteers.

Thanks to all,
Safety Mission Team, LCC
LCC Library
Linda Mohrmann

The library contains a few other media types (DVDs, audiobooks and CDs). You can find movies, music, and comedy features. The featured DVD for April is, The Case For Faith which is a film adaptation of the book by Lee Strobel. "Strobel investigates two of the most emotional objections to Christianity:  Why is Jesus the only way to God?  And how could a loving God exist if there is evil and suffering in the world? "   " The Case For Faith" is a powerful Biblical apologetic for anyone who has ever experienced doubt or uncertainty about God." This is a valuable tool to use when explaining your faith to others.

Prayer Warriors
Cheryl Touryan

Prayer is not a consumer tool but a refiners fire. God has invited us into his presence and hears our heart cry even before words are uttered. You are invited to join the 'Prayer Warriors' every Wednesday afternoon, 2:30 pm, in the 'War Room' at LCC.

Volunteers Needed to Lead Ministry Teams
for Outreach Projects

In our efforts to do more and be seen more in our community, we have a few  projects that we feel
would be a great way to get that started. We still  need volunteers  to lead the  LCC Basketball Tournament
If you have a heart for this or have an idea for something new, please contact Eunice Bollinger at [email protected]

For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
