2018 Studio Tour Planning Under Way

The fall studio tour is underway and we wanted to let you know the dates so you can plan ahead.  This year the tour will take place on September 22/23 and 29/30.  The area is the same as before.  From Cameron Park/ Rescue to Pollock Pines and Diamond Springs/ El Dorado to Coloma.  The entry fee will be the same as last year.  We will let you know as soon as the entry form is available.  The entry deadline is June 1.

We also need someone to chair the event.  All the committees are already filled with the wonderful people at the meeting last Tuesday, so all you would have to do is conduct the meetings and send out a few emails.  I will be glad to help guide you, but I feel someone else should take it over this year.

These are the people you'd be working with:

Entry forms:  Wendy Holloway
Fliers:  Vesla Greenwood, Myra Holmes, Sylvia Saxon
Advertising:  Vesla Greenwood, Sylvia Coleman, and ?
Images:  Sylvia Saxon and ?
Distribution:  Joyce Martin, Phil Lachappelle, Darlene Balsama, and ?
Web Page:  Sylvia Coleman
Bookkeeping:  PAA

Whether being chairman, sharing your studio, or showing with someone else, or all of it, "Please try it.  You'll like it!"

-Valerie Bye

Thank You from our Outreach Participant

Cathy Keil is pleased to share the "thank you" email she received from Yvonne Yates, this year's recipient of our Community Outreach funds:

"I just wanted to follow up with you and say what a pleasure it was to meet you and the members of the Placerville Art Association.  It was a sincere pleasure.  I am excited about the prospect of forming a lasting relationship between Gold Trail School and your members.  Please feel welcome to come visit me at school.  Art is held from 11:55 to 12:50 every day.

I will keep you updated on how the students are liking the new materials as well as send you some photos of the artwork that is created with the new materials, so that you can share with the other members.

Once again, my sincere thanks and gratitude,

Yvonne Yates

april2018bonanza March meeting Bonanza
If you were at our meeting on March 18, you had a great time choosing among donated art supplies. The items were from long-time member Joan Kramer's art studio. For a donation of your choice you were able to stock up on paper, delightful still life objects, small vases, etc.
We are pleased to report that over $225 was donated and will be used for our Art Outreach fund for local schools. In addition, Toni Conely-Widing took many remaining items (including two high-end mat cutters and frames) to be used at the Folsom Lake College Art Dept. where she is a student. We even shared the remaining watercolor brushes with the Senior Center for their beginning art classes. Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun!

April and the Art of Bricolage at Art on the Divide Gallery

bricolage dolls by Carol Nelson

In April, Art On the Divide Cooperative Gallery will display two and three-dimensional works of "Bricolage" created by member artists. In art, bricolageis a technique where works are constructed from various materials available or on hand, creating something new, whether functional or decorative or both.

April also is when we celebrate "Earth Day" making the theme particularly relevant as we up-cycle, re-cycle, re-use and re-purpose many of the material aspects of our lives. Please come in to Georgetown's hometown art gallery and view the "Bricolage" creations on display throughout the month.

Art On the Divide Cooperative Gallery invites local artists who are interested in joining the cooperative to stop by and pick up an application. AODC is located at 6295 Main Street between the fire station and the American River Inn in Georgetown. For more information, call 530 333-2787 (ARTS) or visit www.artonthedivide.com. The gallery is open Friday through Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. in April.

From the Editor
editorYesterday I went to a local conference put on by the Northern California chapter of the Society of Childrens' Book Writers and Illustrators.  I met several young illustrators there and saw their portfolios.  They were lovely, and all were done in PhotoShop.  I feel like a dinosaur, but a happy one.  I'm fine with doing art the old fashioned way, but it certainly sometimes feels like the world is passing me by!  Oh, well...

Show at Art on the Divide

Art on the Divide Gallery is excited to announce the theme for the Fifth Invitational Art Show, "Reflections."   The theme is open to your interpretation, and not expected to be a typical reflection in water.  Think broadly...reflection on family, community, heritage, love, self, beauty, nature, etc.

(Editor's note:  I was unable to link to the call to artists, but will either send out a separate email when I have it or include it in the next newsletter.)

We look forward to your entry.  A People's Choice ribbon will be awarded at the end of the show, and an artists' reception on September 9, 2018, will celebrate the art.

Have fun creating!
