PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE FROM BRANDON LAVIELLE

WSCA President
Brandon LaVielle CEC
April 2018

Spring has sprung, but I'd like to touch on February first.

President's Awards Dinner

We held our President's Awards Dinner on February 12th at Broadmoor Golf Club. Chef Shawn Rogers and team put on a great program for us and I'm looking forward to going back there in the future. I'd also like to thank Dave Lindholm from Cascade Deli Provisions for sponsoring a portion of the alcohol for the evening. And Sandy Goodwin for her microgreens donation towards the dinner. Please support these generous individuals!

The night was highlighted by our annual awards ceremony. Our award winners were as follows:
Chef of the Year - Steve Schrader, CCA
Professional of the Year - Dan Lewark, CEC, AAC
Student Chef(s) of the Year - Gabriel Montgomery, Joshua McKinnon, Amy Reyes
Humanitarian of the Year - John Clark
President's Medallions - Jeff Pratt, Michael Ventura
Associate Member of the Year - Food Services of America

Western and Central Regional Conference

Roger Knapp, CEC, and myself recently returned from the Western and Central Region Conference, ChefConnect, in Newport Beach, California. It was more than educational. The theme this year for the ACF is "Be the Change", and change is exactly what was highlighted at the conference. Classes included; Cannabis Infusion, The Evolution of Indigenous Food Systems of North America, Sustainability, and Elevated Plant Based Cuisine. Just a few of the topics that are trending now in our industry. I can't stress enough how educational and fun the regional and national conferences are. I highly recommend taking the time to attend one in the near future. Cook. Craft. Create., the ACF National Convention will take place this summer in New Orleans, Louisiana. Book your tickets now! The Western and Central Region Conference next year will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Bite of Apprentice

We are all looking forward to the Bite of the Apprentice coming up this Monday April 9th. This event has been growing in popularity over the past few years and is sure to be exciting this year when we welcome Danny Bonaduce from KZOK 102.5 as our guest judge. Click here for more info.

Specialty Coffee Expo

I'd like to mention a cool event that is coming to Seattle. The Specialty Coffee Expo is returning on April 19-22nd at the Washington State Convention Center. Attendees will learn, sip and network their way through over 400 exhibitor booths, the U.S. Coffee Championship events, special exhibits and more. Registration information can be accessed by visiting CoffeeExpo.org.

Culinary Salon Competition

Our culinary salon competition is vastly approaching as well. It will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at The Art Institute of Seattle. There are a few more spots open for hot food categories as well as room for drop-off categories. Click here to register online or for more info...

CULINARY SALON COMPETITION

We are having a culinary salon on May 19th at the Art Institute in Seattle. It will be a  one day  competition this year and more information will come out soon from our new competition chair. We are asking for support the day of the culinary salon from anyone who wants to help out. We will need runners and individuals to help direct contestants and people from kitchen to kitchen. Those that can help please reach out to Janet Waters at  [email protected]  or 206-437-4158.

It takes a lot of support to have a successful salon, I am sure we have the group of professionals to make this happen. We are also looking for 10 sponsors that will donate $500.00 each for this salon. We will have a sponsor page listed on the chapter's website thanking those sponsors that contributed to the success of this culinary salon.

Registration is coming soon!
