“I did not know where to turn for support. My family was extremely supportive as were my medical doctors. However,
given my Ashkenazi Jewish DNA as an African American woman, I had a very unique set of circumstances, and I wanted to find someone who had “walked in my shoes
.
”
Luckily, I saw a brochure while in the hospital which explained Sharsheret. I looked at it with tears in my eyes and immediately knew that I needed to reach out to them for support."

Sharsheret is honored to serve on the Community Advisory Board for the
BRCA
Founder Outreach (BFOR) Study, a new initiative combining the convenience of direct-to-consumer genetic testing with the advantages of receiving testing with the guidance of a medical care provider. Led by our Medical Advisory Board Member Dr. Kenneth Offit and other nationally recognized genetics and hereditary cancer experts, the BFOR study offers no cost
BRCA
genetic testing to women and men of Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jewish ancestry, age 25 or older, in NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, and LA metropolitan areas who are at least ten times more likely than the general population to inherit certain kinds of
BRCA
mutations. Click
