Refill Café, a workforce development program and soon-to-be full-service restaurant based in West Jackson, recently announced plans to open its doors in the fall of this year, after more than two years of planning and preparation. The Refill Jackson Initiative is a fund at the Community Foundation for Mississippi (CFM). CFM has supported the program since its inception, helping to ensure Refill Café will provide opportunities for Jackson’s most vulnerable young adults to have access to job training, mentoring, and other wraparound services and supports they need to secure gainful employment. The initiative focuses specifically on youth ages 18 to 24 who are disconnected from the workforce and formal education.

The project is modeled after similar efforts in other communities, with an added focus on providing healthy eating options and a gathering space in the heart of Jackson. The Community Foundation has provided the financial infrastructure and back office support to help Refill Café lay the groundwork to becoming a stand-alone nonprofit organization. The organization will soon begin the fundraising and program development process to take their ideas from concept to implementation.
