New Data on Autism in 4 Year Olds
On April 11, 2019, the CDC published a report on the prevalence and characteristics of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) among 4-year-old children. This report is based on information from the Early Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. Early ADDM is a subset of the broader ADDM Network, which has been doing ASD surveillance among 8-year-old children since 2000. Read more>>
Stronger State Mental Health Parity Bill Signed into Law
Autism New Jersey secures amendments to preserve benefits and expand protections for autism community
On April 11, 2019, Governor Murphy signed into law a bill (A2031/S1339) that amends existing state law to enhance enforcement and oversight of mental health parity. Under the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, mental health services must be covered under the same terms and conditions as provided for medical and surgical services under the contract.
Yet, denials of and reductions in coverage for mental health conditions (including autism) are regular occurrences for families and providers. Read more>>
Preparing Adults with Autism for Employment Success 
In recent years, researchers examining employment outcomes have found that when young adults with autism have opportunities to participate in programs that both adequately prepare and support them as they enter the workforce, they can be successful and valuable employees. 

Studies looking at employment rates among young adults with autism show that there is still a great need for programs that strengthen employability skills and provide opportunities for young adults to practice them.   Read more>>

Ambassadors from Englewood to Vineland have been engaging in a variety of activities that are making people think differently about individuals with autism, and in the process making people more likely to Choose Kindness.
