April 2019

MESSAGE FROM THE  CEO

Dear Friends,

April is National Volunteer Month when we celebrate the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to be a force that can transform the world.  This is certainly true here at the LLDH Home as we have an incredibly committed group of volunteers who help the residents find joy in their daily lives.  They matter. They make a difference. Their willingness to volunteer at the Home says a lot about each of them as human beings. Their desire to give selflessly to help others speaks to both the strength and the quality of their character. Perhaps it is the fact that they share their time and talents to lend a helping hand and to show kindness and caring that makes the greatest difference in the lives of the residents who are touched by their generosity.  Whether long-time volunteers or someone who got involved fairly recently, their service to the Home is recognized, appreciated, valued and cherished.

As we honor the Home's volunteers during the month of April, let me take this opportunity to remind all of you that we will also be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Home at our Garden Party on May 23rd.  As you read on, you will find valuable information on the many ways you can participate in our festivities.

               Silent Auction/Mobile Bidding

We are so excited about our silent auction this year as we are implementing mobile bidding to freshen your traditional charity auction experience. Mobile bidding will allow you to bid on an auction item from any location as notifications are sent directly to your phone, allowing you to have up-to-the-minute bid updates without having to revisit the bidding table. Even if you do not have a smart phone or need assistance, there will be on-site help and bidding kiosks ready to work with you throughout the bidding process. The easiest way to register is to purchase your tickets online and fill in the required field to set up your profile. Check out the mobile bidding instructions as well on the ticket purchasing link above.

Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind In-Service

A representative from the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind was invited by the Home's Activity Department to hold an in-service for staff members to introduce them to the resources available in the community for our residents who are blind or visually impaired. The meeting was extremely informative and we look forward to partnering with the Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind for future engagements.
