SBU Energy Expert Urges Congress to Invest in Energy Resilience Research to Maintain US Leadership in Innovation and Security

On Tuesday, March 19,  David Hamilton , Stony Brook University’s Executive Director for the Clean Energy Business Incubator Program ( CEBIP ) and Director of Operations for the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center ( AERTC ), met with Congressional staff in Washington, D.C., to discuss the importance of federal investments in energy resilience research.

BIANYS to host training for incubator managers at the E3 NYS Collegiate Business Plan Competition Conference in Albany

A number of economic development organizations throughout New York State have come together to help bring back the statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition on April 25th and 26th.To help add to the Conference BIANYS has agreed to hold one of its first modules in its new Education Program on April 25th.

RPI Digital Game Development Center

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has received nearly $300,000 in new grant funding from New York to support and expand the state’s digital game development sector. The Tech Valley Digital Gaming Hub at RPI specifically focuses on the greater Capital Region's digital gaming ecosystem and facilitates communication and collaboration between academic researchers, industry leaders, business incubators, and community partners. The increased funding from New York will advance efforts to increase the size and prominence of the New York State gaming industry. Since ESD first established the Digital Game Development Center program, the centers at RPI, New York University, and Rochester Institute of Technology have created and retained over 120 jobs, assisted in the development of more than 110 games, and have supported the licensing and publishing of 14 games. On April 27, RPI will host GameFest, an annual games festival that showcases student creativity and innovation in game design. More information is available  here
Governor Cuomo Announces $2B IBM Investment to Create Artificial Intelligence Hardware Center at SUNY Poly Albany Campus

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that IBM, a long-time anchor tenant at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute campus in Albany, plans to invest over $2 billion to grow its high-tech footprint at the campus and throughout New York State. This includes the establishment of an " AI Hardware Center " at SUNY Poly for artificial intelligence-focused computer chip research, development, prototyping, testing and simulation. Once established, the AI Hardware Center will be the nucleus of a new ecosystem of research and commercial partners, and further solidify the Capital Region's position as "Tech Valley" - a global hub for innovative research and development.  


Light and Sound Interactive Conference

LSI is the premier event for light and sound-based technologies in the emerging fields of cinema, music, gaming and interactive media, optics, photonics, imaging and, virtual and augmented reality. Scheduled speakers include representatives from from well-known companies including Facebook, Microsoft, the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, and The Air Force Research Laboratory, as well as demonstrations from Amazon, Bose, and Harmon to name a few. $1M Business Plan Competition for the Southern Tier opens application period for cleantech companies.

76West is an unparalleled competition sponsored by NYSERDA focused on growing entrepreneurs and attracting resources from the U.S. and around the world to build clean energy businesses and jobs in New York State’s Southern Tier region. The competition offers $20 million in prize money and support services, including a $1 million top prize.
