SLAM Camps
Along with Enrichment classes, Bloomington Community Education provides many summer camps designed for children Pre-K to 8th grade. Registration is open for these week-long camps held at Olson Middle School. From cooking to coding, and sports to arts, our families will find it all in the Summer Experience catalog. And yes, we have fishing too! Where to register for camp? Go to bloomington.ce.eleyo.com and look under SLAM.
Doug Langefels Retires
In last month's newsletter we announced Mike Larson as our brand new Building Reservations and Activity Centers Manager. Now it's time to say goodbye to Doug Langefels, who is retiring in April. Doug has been with Bloomington Public Schools for 17+ years, taking on the role of Building Reservations and Activity Centers Manager in 2001. We will miss seeing Doug and we would like to say Thank You for all that you have accomplished.
Did You Know?
Metro South and Bloomington Public Schools are partnering to provide Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training. This training, held at the BPS Transportation Center, is open to Metro South students and the general public in order to encourage more people to drive a school bus for Bloomington Public Schools. Once receiving their permit, students can take Behind the Wheel training to earn their CDL Class B license. Upon interviewing and passing required tests, these students can become employed by the school district. This win-win approach has already netted the district 5 new bus drivers!
Grant Received for Swimming Lessons
Bloomington Community Education - Aquatics - has been chosen as a 2019 USA Swimming Foundation Grant Recipient! USA Swimming Foundation vetted more than 240 applications and choose 85 programs to receive funding. We were one of 26 first-time recipients. With this partnership, we will be able to provide children the life-saving skill of learning how to swim! For Free! Many of these children do not have the opportunity to take swimming classes due to financial obstacles. We will begin by providing swimming lessons to the students enrolled in the summer school program and then continue into the new school year. Climb on in, make a splash and have a ball!  See you all at the pool!
We hope you enjoyed this edition of the Bloomington Community Education newsletter.
