Mayor's Message
April is going to be a busy month in Pasadena! In addition to celebrating Good Friday and Easter, our City will also be recognizing San Jacinto Day. Pasadena citizens will also be able to begin early voting this month as we look to the upcoming City Council Election Day on May 4th. I encourage you to get informed on the issues and candidates as much as possible. For more information and polling locations, visit our Election Information section on the City’s website: www.pasadenatx.gov  Election results will be available on The Pasadena Channel (Comcast 16 and AT&T U-verse 99) and on our City Hall Facebook and Twitter accounts as they become available.

Enjoy the warmer weather and have a wonderful spring. Please be sure to take a look at our Calendar section for details on City events and holiday closures.

On a final note, I would just like to commend our City Office of Emergency Management, Pasadena Police Department and Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department for their steadfast leadership during last month’s emergency at Intercontinental Terminals Company (ITC) in Deer Park. Our emergency personnel worked around the clock to monitor the air-quality and water safety readings . Even though we could see the fire and smoke, we were fortunate that no readings in Pasadena ever reached levels deemed dangerous by the EPA. I am honored to be working with a team of professionals whose experience is such blessing to our citizens.

Have a blessed and safe Easter weekend.
#ProgressInMotion Industry News
After years of enjoying a steady economy, thanks to our strategic location close to the Houston Ship Channel, Pasadena is experiencing yet another boom in prosperity. Capital investments in our industry sector jumped from $44 million in 2017 to $1.5 BILLION in 2018. One of the largest of those projects was Baystar , a joint venture between three globally established petrochemical leaders: TOTAL, Borealis and NOVA Chemicals. I was honored to attend the recent ribbon-cutting of their 625,000 metric-ton-per-year polyethylene unit. Located at the Bayport Terminal, this new unit will use Borstar® technology for the first time in North America and deliver a broad range of products to help meet the growing global demand for plastics. Our local workforce will also see 1750 new jobs during site construction and about 100 new full-time jobs upon completion.

Aurora Plastics also completed the expansion and renovation of their 60,000 square foot manufacturing plant just inside the Beltway. The renovated plant includes upgrades in compound blending, controls and automation systems as well as a new lab and expanded product testing capabilities.

Municipal Court Building Update
Our Pasadena Municipal Court is getting a new home! Court operations have been in a temporary facility on Shaw since Hurricane Ike damaged the old court building on Davis, next to our Central Library. The new building will replace the original structure on Davis. Its eco-friendly design will improve public access and provide great security. The official groundbreaking for this long-awaited addition to our municipal complex is scheduled for late April.
City Holiday Closures

All City Offices will be closed for Good Friday and San Jacinto Day later this month. Please know that this applies to all City Hall offices, Parks & Recreation, Pasadena Animal Shelter, both Pasadena Library Locations and support services. Emergency personnel and 911 services will still be operational. Trash collection schedules can be found here
After the Gavel
Here are just a few of the agenda items and resolutions that passed during council meetings in March 2019:

• A resolution to accept a $26,000 in-kind donation from the Pasadena Girls Softball Association. This will add dirt and help with the leveling of our city softball fields.
• An ordinance to enter into an interlocal agreement with the Houston Parks Board for the Pasadena Healthy Parks plan. This agreement will provide our Parks & Recreation Department with a $300,000 grant to do a comprehensive parks master plan study for Pasadena.
• An ordinance to enter in to a interlocal agreement with the City of Grand Prairie, TX for provision of a Christmas Light Display for the 2019 Holiday Season.
