Friday Food Fest!

Looking for cooking ideas you can make while staying at home? This week we are looking for appetizer recipes and photos for our "Friday Food Fest!" posted online on our Facebook page. Please send photos and recipes to cwoods@ocln.org. VML Librarians will compile photos and recipes to make a "Ventress Community Cookbook" to hand out when we re-open. Let's have fun, and as Julia says "Bon Appetit!" Last week featured "Baking"' including these Southern Buttermilk Biscuits (pictured). Click Here! for the recipe.

Arts & Crafts Photos

Since many people have much more time at home right now, it's a great time to work on craft projects! Each Thursday, we're posting photos and arts and craft projects by staff and patrons to our Facebook.

Please send photos of your completed projects or works-in-progress to  macirc@ocln.org  if you'd like to be featured. Any type of craft or artwork is welcome!
Children's Update
Are you missing story time as much as we are? There are so many great story times being hosted online but Miss Jen's favorite is over on the  @savewithstories Instagram.  Check them out daily to see some of your favorite actors, musicians, and authors reading their favorite children's picture books. Here is Ventress' new weekly schedule of postings for kids:

  • Mondays #legoclub: We'd love to see anything your children have created with LEGO on our Instagram and Facebook! It doesn't have to be something recent - it can be any LEGO creation you've made. Send them to vmlchild@gmail.com and we'll feature them at our virtual LEGO Club!

  • Wednesdays #craftsforkids: Do you have a great idea for a craft or want to show us what your kids have been working on? Please send us photos and we will feature them on Instagram and Facebook.

  • Fridays #cookingwithkids: Is your family cooking together? Are there any budding chefs in your family? We'd love to hear about what you've been eating and cooking and we will share your stories on Instagram and on Facebook.
Teen Update
  • Wednesday Craft Day: If you missed last week’s video, Recycled Bottle Planters, you can find it on our YouTube, and Teen Instagram. As promised, this week, we are using those bottle caps and making Recycled Bottle Cap Photo Frames.

  • Crash Course YouTube Channel: Are you struggling with this whole learning-from-home thing? Increase your knowledge and enjoy yourself with these entertaining videos from authors (and brothers!) John and Hank Green.

  • Dungeons & Dragons: Wizards of the Coast, the company that publishes D&D, is releasing regular Stay at Home, Play at Home materials, including printables and limited-time, free mini quests.

  • Mindfulness and Meditation: It’s like, super stressful at the moment. These teens share how they cope with mindfulness. Start your own mindfulness journey with these free guided meditations from Dr. Dzung Vo, a teen mental health expert, and author of The Mindful Teen, available on Hoopla. Always on the go? Try one of these mindfulness apps recommended by Teen Vogue.
