During the Ebola crisis, artist and Gold Foundation grantee Mary Beth Heffernan developed the PPE Portrait Project, adding photos to the front of healthcare professionals' protective suits so that isolated patients could see the faces of those caring for them. Her PPE Portrait Project has found a new urgency and widespread adoption in the COVID-19 crisis. The Gold Foundation is proud to have supported her ground-breaking work and encourages all hospital to adopt this simple and powerful practice.

Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) chapters at medical schools around the world are inducting their 2020 new members, who are selected by their peers as exemplars of compassionate care. The Gold Foundation has developed
tools
to help the chapter shift their ceremonies to online celebrations, and Gold representatives are available to join the virtual ceremonies and bring brief remarks and congratulations. "We are delighted to be part of recognizing and welcoming the newest GHHS members in these virtual ceremonies," said Dr. Elizabeth Cleek, Chief Operating Officer, who has spoken at two virtual ceremonies.
"The newest GHHS members and their colleagues in medicine are rising to meet the immense need of the moment with incredible courage, care, and compassion. We are grateful to all of them for their critical role as healers, helping us all thrive."

This Tuesday, May 5th, has been designated a special day of support for nonprofit organizations around the globe:
Giving Tuesday Now.
We are so grateful to the healthcare teams, now and always, who care with compassion, respect, and collaboration. We are continuing to support healthcare professionals and students and offer tools for connection in this crisis. On May 5th, please consider giving to the mission of humanism in healthcare and donating to the Gold Foundation. If you would like specifically to support one of our pandemic initiatives under way, please reach out to Stuart Chizzik at
schizzik@gold-foundation.org
.
With your gift, we've created a way for you to share your gratitude for healthcare professionals directly with them in a real and meaningful way. We've included space
on our Giving Tuesday donation form
for you to include your own note or letter of gratitude, which we will deliver to healthcare teams at our Gold Partners Council hospitals. Thank you for supporting the human connection in healthcare!
