During the Ebola crisis, artist and Gold Foundation grantee Mary Beth Heffernan developed the PPE Portrait Project, adding photos to the front of healthcare professionals' protective suits so that isolated patients could see the faces of those caring for them. Her PPE Portrait Project has found a new urgency and widespread adoption in the COVID-19 crisis. The Gold Foundation is proud to have supported her ground-breaking work and encourages all hospital to adopt this simple and powerful practice.

The Gold Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the new free virtual course “Humanism in Health and Healthcare,” d eveloped in partnership with global platform and Oakland University’s William Beaumont School of Medicine. This competency-based course can be easily used by medical and nursing schools or individual students around the globe. The curriculum is available for free to all.

In addition, Dr. Jason Wasserman of Oakland University and Dr. Hedy Wald of Brown University are planning a live 4-week session of "Humanism in Health and Healthcare" this summer using this curriculum and drawn from students around the globe. One of the resources now available for free for use during the pandemic is our Tell Me More® communication tool, which encourages patients to share personal details on a poster that can hang nearby, so that every healthcare team member learn about each particular patient.
In the first video of the Gold Human InSight Webinar Series , Dr. David Fryburg, President and Co-Founder of Envision Kindness, explains why stress awareness is crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic. He suggests techniques to reduce stress and help strengthen connections. Learn strategies to help connect with patients and colleagues and replenish your own well-being in the COVID-19 pandemic. These live webinars will draw from the Alda Method®, an improv-centered and trust-based communication training program, and the Gold Foundation's Tell Me More® tool. Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) chapters at medical schools around the world are inducting their 2020 new members, who are selected by their peers as exemplars of compassionate care. The Gold Foundation has developed tools to help the chapter shift their ceremonies to online celebrations, and Gold representatives are available to join the virtual ceremonies and bring brief remarks and congratulations. "We are delighted to be part of recognizing and welcoming the newest GHHS members in these virtual ceremonies," said Dr. Elizabeth Cleek, Chief Operating Officer, who has spoken at two virtual ceremonies. "The newest GHHS members and their colleagues in medicine are rising to meet the immense need of the moment with incredible courage, care, and compassion. We are grateful to all of them for their critical role as healers, helping us all thrive."
