They are part of the history of the Culligan City of Palms Classic, but now former tournament stars are rising up and opening their hearts for their communities during this unprecedented coronavirus pandemic. Many of the Classic’s biggest names are giving back with substantial donations or through powerful words.
They never had a chance to play for a national championship this year and many didn’t even get the opportunity to jump it up for a state title because of the virus, but six teams playing in the 2019 Culligan City of Palms Classic were recognized in the final MaxPreps national high school poll. There was a time when Luke Walton was showing off his basketball skills in front of fans at the City of Palms Classic, and coaching NBA superstars, like LeBron James, was only a dream. Walton, who is currently coach of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, played in the Classic in 1997 while a star.......
