A Message from the Executive Director

We hope that you and your family are healthy and doing well! The fact that I've taken a selfie in front of my house for this newsletter is a sign of the times. We are celebrating 70 years in the community, and our strength and sustainability has always been in meeting the needs of the community; we are challenged with COVID-19 to do that, once again. We have developed new service models that will continue to provide a high quality of care. I'm so proud of our TLC staff who have worked tirelessly and nonstop to continue to help our community to thrive and stay on a path of progress and success.
TLC remains a leader in the use of educational platforms and telehealth, and we have no plans to slow down; we are continuously increasing the number and type of services available virtually. Make sure that you check our website frequently for updates,

TLC is here for you! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

TLC has a family of services, and each program has unique needs. Service delivery is different for each program. We are operational, so please reach out regarding our services.
Whether you are an existing client or new client, please feel free to email or call us with questions. Each program page has applicable contact information.
Note: Some specific services can be reimbursed through health insurance, while other services cannot, depending on the type of service and insurance. We can talk you through this process.

The Katherine Thomas School
|
|
The Katherine Thomas School is very much open and students are learning! We know that the unexpected transition to virtual learning and all that comes with it may be a challenge for your family. Thank you for your flexibility and openness to support your child(ren)'s learning in new ways over the past weeks and for providing us with helpful feedback in the Parent Survey about your child's specific needs. As students become more comfortable with using the virtual platforms our expectations for students' time in virtual classrooms and the rigor of instruction will increase.
Tips and Information from our Related Service Providers: Coping with COVID 19 (Ms. Joy Thibeault, Social Work Department)
Is anxiety in the air at your house due to all of the COVID-19 news, disruptions, and cancellations? Here are a few tips on managing your household’s anxiety during these unprecedented times:
*Routine, routine, routine!
Creating and sticking to a routine offers reassurance, normalcy, and predictability to people of all ages during a time when we are all being asked to be our most flexible selves. Routines can be communicated through posted schedules, agendas, and to do lists.
*Stick to tradition…..or create a new one.
If you have tacos on Tuesdays, keep having tacos on Tuesdays! Any bit of our “pre-COVID” traditions that we can stick to will help provide comfort and normalcy. Now is also a good time to develop a tradition or routine…...work on a puzzle together as a family for 15 minutes every evening after the dinner dishes have been cleared, or write a letter to relatives in other states on Sunday evenings.
*Focus on the positives.
What are the great things about your time together? While there are down sides, there are some wonderful things to enjoy about this time as well. Maybe make a tradition of letting your child know one thing you really enjoyed about the day or your time with them that day. Students are hearing and experiencing a lot of the negatives, and hearing parents discuss the situation’s benefits is reassuring. Try going around the table at dinner and asking everyone for one thing they are thankful for that day
*Stay social!
Ask your student if there is anyone from school they are wondering about, or would like to “see” and arrange a Zoom, Facetime, or Skype meetup with! Parents, this includes you with your friends and support systems. Make sure both adults and students in your home are having some connection with the world and those you love.

If you haven't already, please consider donating to TLC's Annual Fund. We could use your help now more than ever! Because of COVID-19, we have increased costs to support our families who are having financial difficulties, we are continuously purchasing new resources for our virtual delivery models, and we are experiencing other unanticipated costs.
