The Clerk's Minutes
April 2021

I wanted to take a moment to thank each and every employee who has made the transition from branch manager to clerk as seamless as possible. While helpful to have worked alongside you in various roles over the past 20 years, there are always items which you couldn’t have anticipated or happen differently than planned.

I am part of a remarkable team of 260-some strong employees who truly care about our constituents here on the Space Coast, and I am extremely proud of what we have already accomplished.

With a new administration comes change, though I hope you’ll agree that the changes we’re working on are positive. We have an updated handbook which is easier to read and more consistently outlines our policies. Additions will be made over time as needed, and ancillary policies will be circulated for specific items.

We’ve begun to implement the Three Wishes program I started in Viera office wide. This three-wish program allows each employee the opportunity to think outside the box, to let me know if there are things I can provide you to help do your job better, or simply something fun or interesting you hadn’t thought to request before. I love seeing these requests and am committed to fulfilling as many of them as we can in short order.

One of the additional changes we have implemented is $2 Dress Down Days. These days are designed to be extra dress down days a few times each month that benefit either employee activities throughout the year or non-profit organizations designated by the Clerk Vs. I’m thrilled to share that our Mardi Gras $2 Day helped raise $450 for The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, benefitting research and support for those afflicted with gallbladder and other bile duct cancers!

As well, a new Employee Recognition Committee will be working to make suggestions to Human Resources and management regarding revamping our employee recognition efforts. These will include new longevity awards and name tags, suggestions to recognize our star employees, and fun events for all.

And, while we look to the future for exciting things on the horizon, I want to take a moment to thank my friend and mentor, our former Clerk—and Clerk Emeritus!—Scott Ellis. Scott has helped shape our office and our county in public service for more than 30 years. We will miss seeing his face in our offices every day, but the values he helped instill in our organization will remain, as will our commitment to serving the public he cares so passionately about.

I hope you and your families are safe and healthy as the COVID-19 pandemic moves forward and as always, if you have questions or concerns, I’d love to hear them. When I started in our organization, I may not have ever seen myself sitting in the chair I am today. But today, I wouldn’t trade the honor of serving alongside you for anything.

With gratitude,
Human Resources poses with Scott and refreshments at his Titusville going away party in the Brevard Room
Staff chat with Scott as he discusses all things West Virginia
Retiree Joan Spangler came to wish Scott well and chatted with County Finance Director Steve Burdett
Dozens of Clerk employees attended two separate going away parties for former Clerk Scott Ellis in Viera and Titusville.

Scott was extremely appreciative to all who showed up to wish him well, and enjoyed the company and conversation!

Supervisors and managers came together to collect donations to provide Scott with a going away gift of a Tractor Supply gift card for the mountains of West Virginia!
Two-Day Job Fair
Our office hosted a two-day job fair with events in Titusville and Viera. The event brought in nearly 150 people seeking jobs in court clerks, recording, IT, data entry, child support, customer service, and other areas.

We received dozens of applications from very qualified candidates, some of whom will be joining our ranks in short order!
Operation Greenlight
Our office hosted our Operation Greenlight event on Saturday, February 27 at the Moore Justice Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During the event, our office waived our usual 25-percent collection fee so that individuals who are delinquent on their court fines and fees can more easily clear their license and get back on the road.

This event helps to bring much needed dollars into our office and has been successful at clearing dozens of licenses in past years. On Saturday alone, we receipted more than $122K!

The Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles also had its FLOW bus on site, allowing easier access for citizens to obtain new driver's licenses on site without having to visit another office.

Pam Lanier, our Project Manager, led our office's efforts on this project.
$2 Dress Down Days
We have started $2 Dress Down Days in all branches to allow for extra dress down days throughout the month. Each day is tied to a theme, color, or charitable group and is designed to support our community as well as our internal employee activity fund.

Recent days included our Mardi Gras day which raised $450 for The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation and our St. Patrick's Day event which raised almost $150 for our Clerk Activity Fund which is used to offset annual events.

Check out our social media for more photos of the fun
April 2021 Employee of the Month
Our April 2021 Employee of the Month is Kim Reynolds!

Kim is the administrative assistant in the Administration suite, but wears many different hats from food truck planner, to process server guru, to administrative order coordinator, to general "jack of all trades."

Please make sure to say congrats to Kim when you see her next!
Kudos!
Alice Corso received a certificate, trophy, and some goodies for answering the most number of calls in our Call Center during the first quarter of 2021!

Alice answered 3,612 calls, helping our customers navigate their questions and getting them expert help instead of having to come into one of our branches!

Thank you, Alice, for all that you do!
Our First Female Clerk & Comptroller
On January 5, we welcomed our newest clerk and the county's first female Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller.

Rachel was sworn in as Clerk ad Interim on January 1, 2021, in a courtroom at the Moore Justice Center by Chief Judge Lisa Davidson. Rachel took over after former Clerk Ellis retired on December 31.

On Tuesday, January 5, Clerk Sadoff began her own term as our Clerk & Comptroller, becoming the female to hold the position since the county's founding in 1854.
Welcome, Jason Arthur!
On February 9, the office welcomed our new chief deputy, Jason Arthur!

Jason comes to us from the State Attorney's Office, where he most recently worked in the felony intake division focusing on firearm cases. Jason is extremely well respected and well liked by his peers and has become a fast friend to many in the halls of our office.

Jason is a graduate of Melbourne High School, and received his undergrad from Florida State University and his juris doctorate from Florida Coastal School of Law.

Please help Jason feel at home!
Sharing Our History
A display case which holds a number of items from our archives has been placed in front of the Administrative suite again for employees and constituents to enjoy.

Items will be rotated on a regular basis to showcase the rich history of our county and the large collection of historical items we are the custodian over.

Toward the end of February, which is celebrated as Black History Month, a special display containing copies of the marriage license and deed to the home of Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore was placed in the display case.

The Moores, for whom the justice center in Viera is named, were Mims residents, educators, voting rights activities, and pioneers of the Civil Rights Movement.

Make sure to check it out next time you're in Titusville!
Event Calendar Coming Soon!
Our Organizational Development & Public Affairs Department will be working on putting out a Clerk Event Calendar via Outlook for everyone to be able to see when food trucks are visiting, what days are $2 Dress Down Days, and other important events on an officewide and branch-specific level.

Have something that you think should be included? Make sure to email Kim Reynolds or Tyler Winik.
