Learners Log On LLC
April is beginning and we are experiencing the winter season melt into spring. Change is seemingly all around us and that is not excluding the ever-evolving look of our academic schedule!
While our youth can appear to be very adaptable, change and uncertainty prove to be difficult and exhausting. Learners Log On strives to acknowledge this adversity and support students moving forward in their academic journey.
Katie meets with students in kindergarten to high school seniors virtually to build confidence and foundational strategy around study habits, critical thinking, and meaningful comprehension. Spring soccer is picking up and it is important to remember that student-athletes are still students first!

A Berkeley, CA fifth grader (and Chicago Red Stars fan!) logs on with Katie each day to review and discuss her independent work. This young learner has been thriving throughout her remote learning journey with the extra discussions, engagement, and reinforcement provided by Learners Log On. She is not just one of twenty-five elementary students muted on a video conference. Her voice is heard and her insight is remarkable!

FitPlate Nutrition
Do you t think you are eating enough food to support your training?
If you are feeling unenergized or like you hit a wall on the field, waking up 2 or more times in the middle of the night, and constantly thinking about food are signs that you are not getting enough food in.
1. Choose a satisfying breakfast with protein, some starch, and color like oatmeal with peanut butter, fruit, and milk.
2. Have easy grab and go snacks (that has a protein) with you at home and on-the-go to fuel body between meals or when hunger strikes. Half sandwich, cheese stick with apples, banana, and nut butter, yogurt with fruit, pretzels, and baby bell cheese, Lara bar, Perfect Bar, RX Bar, Go Macro Bar etc., etc.
3. Fuel body with lunch and remember, lunch can be made up of multiple snacks above. A balanced meal of protein, starch, and color can be Turkey & cheese sandwich, pretzels, carrots, an apple. Still hungry or need something sweet, add in a cookie :-)
4. Eat within 60-90 minutes of training, refueling the body with carbohydrates, and rebuilding with protein so you are recovered optimally for the next training session or game. 1/2 plate of whole wheat pasta, ground turkey meat sauce, and broccoli is a great option. We want to break the plate into thirds of starchy carbs, protein & color.
5. Hungry later in the evening? Your body is telling you it needs fuel. Enjoy some popcorn with chocolate chips, yogurt, and granola, a glass of milk with peanut butter toast, energy balls or a chocolate tart cherry smoothie.

Doctors of Physical Therapy (DPT)
With the Spring Classic coming up you have a great opportunity to test your skills against some tough competitors. Tournament play is exciting and intense. Of course, with increased frequency and intensity comes an increased risk of bruises, sprains, and strains. As your physical therapists, here are a few simple tips to keep in mind as the big
weekend approaches.
Remember Conditioning
Sure, practice and play gets you in good shape, but we’re always going to remind you about stretching during your off time and keeping up with exercise (remember the hamstring exercises from last month). We all have exercises we’re good at or sides of the body that are stronger than the other. Simple example: if you tend to balance better on your left leg, work on balance exercises for the right leg.
Why? Many if not most injuries are what we call “overuse” injuries. We tend to overuse our stronger muscles to make up for weaker ones. When our stronger muscles get tired, we increase our risk of injury. We might, for example, twist an ankle not because our ankle is weak but because certain muscles in our leg or hip are weak or fatigued.
Listen to Your Body
If you hear one thing from a physical therapist, it may be some variation of “listen to your body!” When you practice, play or work out, pay attention to the signals your body gives you. Soreness and discomfort are natural—but don’t make them worse!
Pain is a message from your body to your brain telling you something is not right. Ignoring pain can mean the difference between an “off week” and an ended season.
Hydrate
Yes, you know it, we know it, but it’s also easy to get caught up in competition. Dehydration is not just bad by itself, it greatly increases the risk of injury. Stay hydrated, my friends!
Questions? We’ll be happy to provide specifics! Doctors of Physical Therapy is proud to be part of the Eclipse family and we wish all the players and teams in the Spring Classic GOOD LUCK for a fun and safe tournament!
