Habitat Happenings | April 2021 Edition
Message From Your Executive Director
Greetings!

April is National Volunteer Month and we have a lot of volunteers to be thankful for at Habitat - in our ReStore, on our construction sites, office volunteers, those who help with events and even our committee members and board members. If you are one of these volunteers, please know how thankful we are for your service to Habitat. Without you, our mission simply would not be possible and we wanted to make sure that you knew that as we close out this month.

Please read on to learn the latest on our mission happenings.

Sincerely,

Sarah Beckman

Home Buyer Program
We have a home being built through our Home Buyer Program at 128 East Prospect Avenue in Plymouth (photos of progress below). We plan to do a virtual dedication of this home in late May or early June. Following the completion of this home, we will start construction on two more homes on the 1,000 block of Erie Avenue in Sheboygan to complete The Gateway Project, a redevelopment of that whole city block. Our application period for this program is currently open as we prepare for our 2022 slate of home buyers. Click here to learn more about how to apply.

Home Repair Program
We are gearing up for summer and our application period is open for homeowners throughout Sheboygan County in need of home repairs. Currently, we have three homeowners approved for financing and in que to have home repair work completed including a project in Cascade and two in Sheboygan.

Build Site Openings
We have a couple build day openings on our home in Plymouth. Volunteering on a Habitat build site is a great way to have fun and learn new skills alongside other volunteers. Due to our COVID-19 guidelines, we have reduced group sizes to 3-5 individuals at one time. The following build days are currently open:

  • Friday, May 21 from 8:30-3:30
  • Saturday, May 22 from 8:30-3.30

We are also starting to take inquiries for group and individual volunteer build days for the two homes we will be building on Erie Avenue later this year. Reach out to Lee Anne at [email protected] or 920-458-3399 ext. 301 to learn more!
Office Volunteers Needed
We are seeking Office Volunteers to help with a variety of tasks in our business office. For this opportunity you could volunteer once a week, once a month or even once per year. Some tasks you may help us with include data entry/computer work, filing and sorting, stuffing/sealing mailings, hand writing envelopes, scanning & saving files, shredding and other special projects.

To learn more, reach out to Lee Anne at [email protected] or 920-458-3399 ext. 301.
Lunch Providers Needed
Do you enjoy cooking? If you don't want to swing a hammer but still want to be involved with our building efforts, you can help by providing a simple lunch for our volunteers on our build sites. Our build days take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and occasional Saturdays and our volunteers break for lunch between 11:30 am - 12:30 pm each day. We typically ask lunch providers to provide a main course, a side item, beverage and any paper or plastic materials to accompany the lunch. Upcoming dates that have lunch openings include:
  • Wednesday, May 5 (five lunches needed, Plymouth)
  • Thursday, May 6 (two lunches needed, Sheboygan)
  • Friday, May 7 (five lunches needed, Plymouth)
