The Landings Art Association
Announces its
April 2021 Art Exhibit
featuring Artist of the Month
Tana Fileccia-Flagg
LAA/Sound View Palmetto Gallery
|
|
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY surrounded by her extended Italian family, Tana Fileccia-Flagg experienced the rich culture and vibrant diversity of New York City’s neighborhoods. With a Master’s degree in Education from Brooklyn College, and a minor in Art, Tana nurtured her passion for the arts while working for 37 years in human services and raising a family. Tana moved to Savannah, Georgia twelve years ago with her husband Ron, where she continues to hone her artistic skills and contribute to the art community. Most recently, she was appointed to the Savannah Cultural Affairs Commission.
Tana has taught classes at SPACE (Savannah’s Place for Art and Cultural Education), and is active in the Coastal Bead Society, where she once served as President. During her tenure, she spotlighted beading as an art by coordinating the “Small Treasures” exhibit in conjunction with the staff at SPACE, which is now the Savannah Cultural Arts Center. Her work includes wire wrapping, metal smithing, Kumihimo, bead embroidery, and contemporary geometric beading, and she often combines techniques to express movement, texture and shape. Constantly learning and open to exploration of new artistic experiences, these find their way into her design process. She enjoys working with individuals to create custom pieces that are unique and reflect the wearer.
These days “art with a purpose” drives Tana’s creative process. She collaborates with community artists to identify needs and develop artistic projects that support those needs. Most recently, during the pandemic, bead artists from the Coastal Bead (CBS) and Hilton Head Island Bead Societies joined forces with CBS member and Landings resident, Thea Palley, who began stringing lanyards to hold the masks we are all wearing. Sales from this group effort have raised more than $2,000 for America’s Second Harvest.
Tana offers workshops thru virtual platforms like Zoom. A partnership of four artists, The Collective Workroom, now offers beading workshops that expand the skill experience through the incorporation of education and exposure to current artists as part of each workshop. The virtual platform has enabled international connections with skilled artists and beginners alike. You are invited to view Tana’s work on her website at www.tffdesigns.com. She welcomes hearing from you if you are interested in commissioning a custom piece. You may reach her at tffdesigns@gmail.com.
The LAA Artist of the Month opening receptions are still on hold, however, our exhibits at the Palmetto Club Gallery continue to showcase the work of our very talented artists. Please don’t miss this special exhibit.

GOOD NEWS…
THE LAA/MERRILL ATRIUM GALLERY
TO CHANGEOVER ART WEDNESDAY, APRIL 7
We’ve recently received word that Merrill would like to start getting back to its normal schedule with regard to LAA art changeover. While Merrill is still open by appointment only, there are many people who do just this on a daily basis. This means that the LAA’s art would be in a highly visible location once again.
Therefore, beginning Wednesday, April 7 from 1-3 PM, LAA members may come to the REAR DOOR ONLY and submit 2 pieces of any size 2D or 3D art for show/sale in the LAA/Merrill Atrium Gallery.
When entering the building, please be sure to wear a mask, sign your work in, and then immediately leave. Feel free to chat with friends outside only. Since this is an at work facility, noise needs to remain at a minimum so as not to disturb.
Feel free to print the below waiver and bring it with you, to speed up drop-off.
