4-H and Non 4-H Livestock Events Guidance for 2021

A new resource has been developed and posted on the California 4-H at Home Events Page. This information provides volunteers and families with key procedures in place for 2021 and considerations involved with livestock events that are: 4-H Hosted, CDFA Sponsored events, Non-CDFA Sponsored events and event jointly planned by 4-H and other organizations. This document also helps clarify details of jackpot and prospect shows. 4-H volunteers and families who have questions should first contact their local UCCE 4-H staff for questions and concerns about safety or risk management related to livestock activities. 
Tractor Supply Paper Clover, April 28 - May 9, 2021
The Spring Paper Clover Campaign will be similar to the one we had last fall:
  • 4-H'ers are not allowed to be in the store or parking lot for the campaign
  • Donations can be made at the register or online (note that online donations will not be credited to a county).
  • Funds raised can be used for 4-H camp and leadership experiences.

4-H clubs can create a display in stores next to the Paper Clover poster. The stand-alone displays will be up only during the 12-day campaign.

Tractor Supply will provide gift cards to 10 4-H programs that participate.

Calling all County Ambassador teams, leaders teams, and their adult coaches!
Join the California 4-H State Ambassadors and learn some vital skills for teams.

Learn how to facilitate a workshop in an effective way either virtually or in person.

April 24, 2021
10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Open to teens who are 13-19 and interested in starting computer science projects in their clubs/counties. Learn about teaching best practices (ages and stages, experiential learning, etc.), beginning coding, and using robotics! You will also gain hands-on experience in both CS software and hardware!

You do not have to attend the first event in order to be able to attend this event. Anyone can teach computer science, including you!

Camp During COVID-19
Workshop Series
April 14, 2021

The California 4-H Camping Advisory Committee invites you to the third installment of the Camp During COVID-19 workshop series, Setting the Stage for Success.

The next workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, April 14, 2021 and will have two sessions.

The first session is 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM and will focus on virtual camp.
The second session is 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM and will focus on day camp.

Participants are welcome to attend one or both sessions but must register separately for each one.
This workshop series will continue the second Tuesday of each month through June 2021, so be sure to mark those calendars.

Session 01: Virtual Camp | April 14, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
The virtual camp session will cover the logistics of delivering activities online. Topics of discussion will include virtual meeting platforms, Zoom basics, virtual classroom management, and youth protection in the virtual space.
Session 02: Day Camp | April 14, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
The day camp session will cover the logistics of safety, communication, and training. Topics of discussion will include how to form camper pods, safe handling of meals, water and snacks, check-in and check-out procedures, communication with families, and staff training.

Tech Talk

April 24 (4th Saturday) 10am – 11am

Tech Talk is a space for leaders, teens, and adults, from beginners to experts to get personalized help in working through the challenges they are facing delivering 4-H in a virtual environment. 

Come when you can, leave when you must
This time is informal, and the content will be created by participants and the questions and challenges that they bring to the room. Think of Scott as your personal technology coach offering PRACTICAL SUPPORT to help you get to success in a virtual 4-H world.

This year's Hippology and Horse Judging contests are being held virtually in partnership with Purdue University. The virtual format and content for this contest was created with Horse Extension Specialists in Indiana, Michigan and Oklahoma.

Hippology is an activity that can make learning fun for 4-H members by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a friendly yet competitive setting.

The Hippology Contest has three (3) different phases:
  • Examination Phase
  • Station Phase
  • Judging Phase

The Horse Judging contest teaches youth how to evaluate horse’s conformation, breed character, and performance ideals based on knowledge and fact, make a decision, and defend it.

2021 State Fashion Revue: REBOOTED
Register April 10 - 30, 2021
Yay, State Fashion Revue is back for 2021! 

Junior, Intermediate, and Senior members qualify at their county Fashion Revue in one of the 5 state categories. Each county may send one member in each category and age division.

For 2021, the categories are open to all 4-H members, with no specific project requirement.

The SFR Committee has been hard at work getting ready for your entries, so we hope you’re planning to participate!

Registration opens April 10 and closes at 5:00 pm April 30 PM.
All entries must be complete as no late entries or additional information can be accepted after the deadline.

Information for Participants

SFR evaluation is online using Zoom during specific time slots. Practice ahead with your smart phone, tablet, or computer with your Zoom app, turning your video and microphone on and off and showing your outfit full length and close up. You might need to recruit someone to hold the device when you present your outfit. The oral presentation is limited to 30 seconds for Juniors and Intermediates, and 1 minute for Seniors, all without notes. Familiarize yourself with the scorecard for your category as well as the evaluation procedures in the 2021 SFR Guide.

Adult Evaluators and Teen Room Hosts Needed
Adult evaluators and Teen (senior member) Room Hosts are needed. Sign up is online beginning April 1. We need current 4-H volunteers in each Zoom room, so we’re looking for 4-H Leaders and other adults with experience in sewing, crafting, and fashion as well as Zoom.
Training is provided!

Room Hosts will announce and provide assistance so need to be experienced with Zoom. They are provided with a script and instructions. We can’t do this without you, so please volunteer!

Awards will be announced at the State Field Day Virtual Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 23, 2021.
Evaluation forms will be emailed to participants by June 4.
Certificates and awards will be mailed to UCCE 4-H county offices by June 30.
