Dear Partners in the Gospel,
From the day he began his ministry, Jesus stirred up the people. He spoke to them with authority and often brought a new twist to old teaching, and a challenge to the status quo. "Love your neighbor, turn the other cheek, do unto others as they would do unto you, become as a little child."
His teachings so began to stir people's hearts that the crowd in Jerusalem wanted to crown him King. His teachings were so radically different, and the response so strong that the religious and political leaders perceived Jesus to be a real threat to the nation. They had Jesus arrested on trumped up charges, whipped him till his back bled all over the place, jammed a crown of thorns on his head as rivers of blood streamed down his face, and finally nailed him to a cross. He was truly a Holy agitator for the Kingdom of God.
On the night of his betrayal Jesus said the disciples were the ones who stood by him in his trials. He promised to share his kingdom with the disciples. They were his friends. Later, as martyrs for Christ, ten of the original twelve did bleed and die for him.
In 2021, as the Holy Spirit works to bring God's kingdom to this earth, the trials go on. Some people in this world, who bear the name "Christian" will die for him. Most of us only will be called to be faithful.
It is much more dramatic to "bleed all over the place" for Jesus, but sometimes it might be harder for us to remain faithful day by day. It can be so difficult to be sure that our speech, our actions, our giving, our thoughts, proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and friend. It may be that the only view of Jesus Christ that our families, our neighbors, fellow co-workers, or friends ever see is what our lives reveal to them.
It is my earnest prayer that as we come to the end of Lent and the beginning of Holy Week, that our individual and corporate actions would reveal to all we encounter that Jesus Christ truly is the King of our lives, of our deeds and actions.
Blessed Holy Week
Pastor Tom

Loaves and Fishes Update
Hello All,
We have received feedback from Loaves and Fishes requesting if we wish to start up serving again.
After reviewing the guidelines, Ray and I feel comfortable to move ahead and start up.
We will maintain our current menu. We will not need to serve it hot, so folks can make these up in advance and either drop it off the serving day at Church of Peace or leave it at church and we will collect it from there.
If you choose to drop off at our church please have it there by 12:00 noon the day of serving.
Our dates for Loaves and Fishes for 2021 are as follow;
April 19, 2021
June 21, 2021
October 18, 2021
I am listing the current guidelines received from the Loaves and Fishes directors.
- Group members will wear masks and gloves while preparing food. Masks, Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer will be provided, if needed.
- No registration will be done
- Limiting 8 meals per family
- Food should be packaged cold and in containers as we have always done
- Clients should enter CoP parking lot from Ruggles Street and proceed to the North and then turn East to pick up food under the church covered carport. They will then exit on to Military Ave. Cones will be setup to help in the first month or so. If you have extra help, someone can help with traffic control. A map will be created to help.
- Since we are unsure of numbers there are 750 cans of soup in the pantry to hand out if you run out of food
- At the carport, ask the client to either pop their trunk or place food in back seat to limit distance between the serving group and clients
- Flyers will be distributed to the Salvation Army, Blessed Bites and Fondy Food Pantry to let clients know of the opening date including a map for curbside pickup instructions
- Bakery will still be dropped off so the groups can add some to each bag
- Plan to start with 150 milks per serving date (300 per week). Numbers will be watched to see if that count needs to change
- Packaged silverware will be available if someone asks for some
- No bathrooms will be available for clients
-
“Car number cards” will be used to know how many meals are needed for each car (similar to how Gilles has numbers on the car for the server)
Ray & I are looking forward to seeing all of you and kind of getting back to normalcy!!
Yours in Christ, Tess Schwartz
PS, Pans will be out the weekend after Easter!

Personal Care Kits
In last month’s Beacon there was an article regarding the Baby Care Kits that WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) puts together for Lutheran World Relief. This month’s article is about the Personal Care Kits that we put together, also for Lutheran World Relief, that are sent all over the world according to where they are needed the most.
Cleanliness helps a person feel more human and when families find their homes destroyed or they must flee for their safety, soap and a towel are rarely the first things they grab to carry along. Arriving in a refugee camp or other place of safety, they are scared, vulnerable and dirty from the travel. The simple items included in a Personal Care Kit provide much needed self-care, critical germ fighting, and the chance to regain dignity amidst situations of fear and uncertainty.
Personal care kits each include:
1 towel – dark colored 20” X 40” up to 52” X 27”
2 bath size bars of soap in original wrappers
1 adult sized toothbrush in the original packaging
1 sturdy comb
1 metal nail clipper
The items are wrapped in the towel, secured with yarn and packaged into boxes. The cost is $2.65 for each kit to ship. With your help we were able to pay the shipping last year. You can again contribute to the shipping or cost of the kits by designating “WELCA Personal Care Kits” on an envelope with your check or there are special envelopes available to use at church near the mailboxes. You can designate if you want your money to go toward shipping or kit supplies.
These things we take for granted can help bring dignity to a person in need. Thank you for your help with this important ministry.

Prayer
One of the biggest problems in the world today is not only Covid-19, but the lack of prayer. We never needed prayer more than we do right now. In Matthew 21:22 "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." Matthew 9:23 "Everything is possible for one who believes." In Mark 10:27 “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” So let us have faith in prayer. In time the Covid-19 virus will go away, but what about the problem with hatred. John 15:23 "Whoever hates me hates my father as well." Another problem we have is no respect for life, abortion, addiction, scams, jealousy, drugs and greed. No respect for public or private property. We have kidnapping, sex trafficking and many other immoral things going on. We have sports figures making millions of dollars and other people struggling to make a living. We have people dying of hunger, lack of food and water in parts of the world. There is only one way to top all of this and this is to pray. So let us pray for all people and hope all people will start praying more. Luke 18:23 "What is impossible with humanity is possible with God." One problem facing the world today is a spiritual problem and this one problem human beings don't seem to know how to solve. PRAY.
