A Month for ACCEPTANCE
April is World Autism Month and in support, I wear a puzzle piece pin to spark curiosity. When people question its meaning, I often use Temple Grandin’s famous quote, “I am different, not less” as a way to frame their thoughts about our students. During this month, I hope everyone finds a way to further the acceptance of autism and embrace each other's differences!

Happy Spring! It’s been a year since all of our worlds changed with being locked down but this month there is a lot of hope for our lives going back to “normal”. It's important to keep a routine for our students, which creates a sense of consistency and security.

This past month, the counseling staff have piloted a Health Week presentation in most of the Newton classrooms and we are continuing the Health Week in the Edison Classroom through April. We'll also be going into all of the classrooms to discuss internet safety. These presentation have included subjects such as personal hygiene, puberty, healthy relationships (in real life and online), and harmful substances. A portion of the presentation talks about daily hygiene routines which helps our students create better habits. Here is an example of a daily routine chart that can be displayed around the classroom, bathroom, or at home.
Remember, it only takes 28 days to create a habit, with these important life skills our students will be able to thrive on their own and become more independent.

Panther Happenings
Here's a look at a few things that went on around campus last month. We celebrated St. Paddy's Day, got vaccinated, welcomed new staff, and had a couple of work anniversaries to celebrate.
Thank you for your support!
