The Community Learning Series, presented by the Community Foundation, is back after a break due to the pandemic and derecho in 2020. The Community Learning Series is part of the effort to elevate awareness, generate discussion, and encourage action around issues of broad community importance.
Join us for Community Learning Series: Working Together to Reduce Youth Violence on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, from 4 to 5:15 p.m. presented virtually on Zoom. Join us to learn about youth violence in our communities and how our community is working together to implement intervention strategies. Panelists include Isaac Hunt Jr., Group Violence Supervisor with Goodwill Industries of Michiana; Tony Wilson, Founder and Director of Central City Development Corporation; and Keeyon Carter, Co-founder, President, and Lead Pastor of Wellington Heights Community Church. The Nonprofit Network has invited the Alliance for Justice to present Nonprofit Know-How: Advocacy & Lobbying 101 on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. via Zoom. The Alliance for Justice is a leader in advocating for a fair and independent justice system, preserving access to the courts, and empowering people to advocate on behalf of the issues they believe in. Racial Equity Learning Opportunity: Sussman Lecture featuring Iowa native Nikole Hannah-Jones on April 8
Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist and Iowa native Nikole Hannah-Jones will deliver the virtual spring Sussman Lecture, presented virtually by The Harkin Institute at Drake University. The online event will be held on Thursday, April 8, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and is free. Hannah-Jones grew up in Waterloo, Iowa, and found her passion for journalism while working for her high school newspaper. She covers civil rights and racial injustice as an investigative reporter for The New York Times Magazine and is creator of the 1619 Project, for which she won a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 2020. Iowa Women's Foundation Announces New Micro Grants and CORE Grant Applications Due April 30
The Iowa Women's Foundation has announced grant programs and deadlines. A new micro grant program will award small grants for immediate emergency needs in the IWF focus areas for Iowa's women and girls. Core grants are due on April 30, 2021 at 5 p.m. An information session will be held via Zoom on March 4, 2021. RSVP to grants@iawf.org for further details. Wellmark Foundation MATCH Grant Application Available
The Wellmark Foundation MATCH (Matching Assets to Community Health) grants are now accepting applications to support communities across Iowa and South Dakota.
