Print's Not Dead
LINOCUT PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP
PRINT'S NOT DEAD
April 15, 4-7pm
The Basics With Instructor Sarah Vazquez

In this introduction workshop to printmaking participants will learn the process of linocut printing. Lino cutting is a reductive technique where you carve an image into a block of linoleum. After you apply ink to your carving, or relief surface, you can then transfer the image onto paper. Great way to reproduce artworks fast and efficiently.

This workshop is open to young adolescents and adults ages 15 and over. All levels are welcomed. Participants will bring an image no bigger than 8x6 inches. All Materials will be provided. Wear your studio clothes/clothing you don't mind getting ink on. Participants will have the opportunity to create up to four (4) finished prints.

WHEEL-THROWING
GUIDE TO VESSELS

Have experience with wheel-thrown ceramics? Having trouble throwing certain shapes like bottle neck vases, low bowls, or wider vessels? Just can't get that cup or mug as thin and tall as you’d like? We have a workshop for you!
In “Wheel-Throwing: Guide to Vessels” participants will receive guided instruction for creating up to three (3) different vessel forms. So we encourage participants to have an idea, sketch, or goal in mind for the workshop. Afterwards, participants will be able to choose one (1) vessel to glaze and fire free of charge; with a choice of firing more objects for an additional small fee.

During his time there he worked with different clay bodies, and found a love for working with porcelain. AJ enjoys throwing bottle and vase forms because of its clean aesthetic and simplicity. AJ hopes to inspire others and help them grow comfortable throwing various shapes and vessels.

About the show:

Thousands of children cross the United States border every year, many of them unaccompanied and under the age of 12. We are seeing these numbers increase due to climate change, famine, war, systemic violence, crime and oppression. All problems created by men. Upon arriving in the United States migrant children become part of greater systems of exploitation; systems of profit, detention and incarceration.

A cage is a cage, is a cage. Children are not profit, or numbers. We carry stories. We carry momentos, trauma and joy.

Cisne is a visual celebration of my own story as a child migrant, a longing for relationships left behind and the memories I carried with me across the U.S. border. It is me reclaiming and reimagining a difficult queer childhood in the United States through mix media. It is through art that I want to present a show that is playful, joyful and still political.
