Community College Philanthropist Honored

Nominated by Southside Virginia Community College, SHINE (Solar Hands-On Instructional Network of Excellence) received the 16th Annual Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy.


More than two dozen individuals, families, organizations and businesses around Virginia earned the 2022 Chancellor's Award for Leadership in Philanthropy.

Power Line Worker Graduation

On April 20th, twenty-four students graduated from the PLW Training School. Students were joined by over 200 family members, friends and prospective employers for the celebration. A special thank you to our friends at Cooperative  Living magazine for capturing the event.

Stinson Recognized


The American Association of Community Colleges/Phi Theta Kappa/All-USA Team represents the best academic talent at the nation’s community and technical colleges. Being nominated for this prestigious award is an honor in itself. SVCC student Anna Stinson was nominated this year and named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-USA All-Virginia Academic Team during a luncheon held in Richmond on April 20, 2022. Anna, from Dillwyn Virginia, has been accepted to George Mason University where she plans to attend in the fall, majoring in Global Affairs.

SVCC Welcomes Director of Practical Nursing Program


Southside Virginia Community College welcomes Dr. Ramesha Walker as the Director of Practical Nursing. Dr. Walker comes to SVCC with more than 20 years of experience in the Nursing/Healthcare field with her most recent position as the Health Service Administrator for Mediko Correctional Healthcare. She has also been a nursing instructor for nine years, including four years as an adjunct instructor for SVCC. She holds a D.N.P., M.S.N. and B.S.N. from Chamberlain College of Nursing and completed the PN Program at SVCC and the RN Program at John Tyler Community College.

SVCC Students Attend Governor's Conference on Agricultural Trade


Students and alumni from SVCC's agribusiness program attended the Governor's Conference on Agricultural Trade, along with industry leaders and government representatives from a number of countries including China and Germany.  SVCC students and alumni were able to join virtually and hear speakers including Governor Youngkin, Dr. Jewel Bronaugh, USDA Deputy Secretary of Agriculture, representatives of various trade organizations, the Port of Virginia, Agriculture Economists and a USDA meteorologist. Topics included a fascinating talk "Mega-Droughts: Adapting to More Extreme and Variable Weather Patterns", discussions of the current supply chain issues and their impact on Virginia's agricultural products, and the impact the war in Ukraine is having on the global food and energy supplies.
