Telling the 211 Story with Impact Results
|
|
From headlines about the eviction moratorium to tweets about food insecurity or school board meetings about summer learning loss to legislative caucuses around economic development and jobs – 211 has a message and a story to tell. Our Impact Survey (aka Big Count) results are in for 2021 and 211s are responding to requests related to pretty much every trending topic in every community. Tell the story of how 211 is a critical service in your area with the following tools:
-
211.org - Consider creating a page on your site with local information for each county and share it frequently.
-
National Results Infographic
- Customizable Results Infographic
- Isolate the impact results from specific issue areas to submit a letter to the editor related to a headline in your community.
-
Send 211 Counts reports to your legislative representatives each quarter. You can filter based on their elected district.
- Sign up to attend a city council or school board meeting – not to ask for money – but to share your results related to relevant issues in your area.

Ride United: Last Mile Delivery
+ 211 Presented at SXSW
|
|
On March 13, 2022, Sawyer Baker, Director of 211 Programs at United Way Worldwide, Brittany Graunke, Director of Drive at DoorDash, and Elizabeth Perez, Deputy Secretary for Public Affairs and Equity at the Washington State Department Of Health, presented at South by Southwest (SXSW) as a part of the panel, Solving the Pandemic’s “Invisible Problems.” The panel discussed how RULMD offered real-time solutions to issues that evolved rapidly and were exacerbated at the onset of COVID-19 like the reduction in volunteer forces who historically delivered meals, children switching to remote-learning needing free/reduced lunches at home, pet parents facing more extreme challenges with keeping all their family members fed, and those navigating charitable food systems for the first time. The panel also highlighted that, although RULMD was catalyzed at the start of the pandemic, it has evolved to be more than just a unique “pandemic solution.” RULMD showcased its superpower of delivering directly to anyone in need, transforming the way our neighbors access charitable food.
Read more about the outstanding work teams across the network are doing in their community in the Ride United: Last Mile Delivery 2021 End of Year Report. Charlene highlighted how 211 call and needs data can be used to support local and state decision making and inform outreach efforts communities, ensuring all know the resources 211 can provide. This source of valuable data, if invested in properly, alongside technology, staff capacity, and storytelling, can effect change at all levels in our communities.

During the month of April and in honor of Celebrate Diversity Month, we can carry on the practice of encouraging the acknowledgement of our differences by engaging with facets of other cultures, perspectives, and lifestyles in significant ways. We would like to highlight a wonderful national resource, ABLE accounts. This is an amazing tool to help people with disabilities save money without losing the services they need to participate in society. For more information, visit the ABLE National Resource Center which includes lots of valuable information about ABLE accounts in every state.
Also, check out the one-pager for the ABLE Age Adjustment Act which allows people who acquired their disability before age 46 to open ABLE accounts.
Currently, only people who acquired their disability before age 26 are eligible, this act opens the door for so many to access this resource. You can find more information about eligibility on the ABLE National Resource Center website.
