As the saying goes, April showers brings… the end of the first quarter (and May flowers!). I hope this message finds you and your business in a prosperous position and on track to achieve your goals for the year.
 
April is packed with special occasions such as World Autism Awareness Day (4/2), Earth Day (4/22) and Arbor Day (4/29). With this month emphasizing environmental awareness and an appreciation for the outdoors, I challenge all of us to take time to get outside. We are fortunate that the Lisle area has such a wonderful assortment of beautiful outdoor space such as the Morton Arboretum, Community Park at the Lisle Park District, as well as various DuPage County Forest Preserves.
 
Taking time to get outside benefits the body and mind. For example, being outdoors can improve your health and well-being by lowering your blood pressure and reducing stress, improving your mood and focus, helping you heal quicker and supporting aging more gracefully.
 
As the weather continues to warm as we approach the summer season, we look forward to the outdoor Chamber events on the calendar. Our Annual Golf Outing is planned to take place in July, which continues to be an amazing event each year. We are also excited to announce our Lisle Uncorked- Wine Event on August 27th on the grounds at the Museums of Lisle Station Park. These are in addition to a variety of other local events and offerings. On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, we hope you will join us for the fun this season!

The Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce awards scholarships to high school students graduating in 2022. Awards are based on several considerations that include academic achievement, community involvement, and need. 

Application deadline is April 15, 2022 by 4:00 p.m.
Application Requirements:

* Applicants must either have an immediate family member who is a member of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce (individually or through corporate affiliation), or they must have a Lisle mailing address.

* Applicants must plan to attend a technical or trade school, business college, or a two-or four-year college or university.

* The application packet must be fully and legibly completed.

* The application must be received at the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce via email submission ([email protected] or [email protected]) or by U.S. Mail postmarked by 4:00 p.m. on April 15, 2022. Applications that are dropped off will not be accepted. The Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce assumes no responsibility for application packets that are not correctly submitted.

Multi-Chamber Luncheon -
COVID-19 in DuPage County


On March 8, 2022, the Multi-Chamber Luncheon - COVID-19 in DuPage County was held at the Crowne Plaza in Glen Ellyn. The event featured Karen Ayala and Christopher Huff from the DuPage County Health Department and identified opportunities for businesses and public health to support health in our community. They spoke what we know, what we have learned, and what we can do to support businesses and the community now and in the future.

Julie LaFond
St. Joan of Arc
 
Julie LaFond is a retired teacher from St. Joan of Arc and she has worked in that field for 35 years. Her primary duty at
St. Joan of Arc was teaching Junior High Language Arts. Julie has been a Lisle Area Chamber member for 16 years and has served on the Ambassador Committee for 15 years. She also volunteers her time with the Volunteers 4 Lisle. Volunteers 4 Lisle is the volunteer arm of the Lisle Police Department. Julie thoroughly enjoys volunteering for this organization.

In addition to her contributions as an Ambassador, Julie has worked on the Dinner Dance Committee, 5K Committee, Golf Outing Committee, Government Affairs Committee and she is the Chair of the Scholarship Committee. She enjoys being an Ambassador for the Lisle Area Chamber because she has the opportunity to work with great people throughout the Village in all lines of business.

Julie resides in Lisle. She enjoys spending her free time with her three children and seven grandchildren. She also loves gardening, reading and getting involved in her community. She lives her life by these words, “Get involved and you will reap the rewards of helping people.”

Gas prices are crazy right now. You can’t control that. But, you can control a few things that help you make the most of that gas.
1.  Combine your errands into fewer trips
2.  Use cruise control on the highway
3.  Make sure your tires are inflated properly
4.  Carpool to work when possible or a remote day
5.  Take advantage of loyalty programs at grocery and warehouse stores.
6.  Turn off your car while waiting at the bank and other drive-ups. (You use less gas by restarting your car than leaving it idle.)

Many thanks to Chamber Member Gregg Eisel of One-2-One Computer Assistant (also our DJ for many years at our Dinner Dances) who donated a slightly used computer to replace Claudine’s at least 12 year old one. 

Do you know of any high school seniors? Ask them to apply for the Chamber scholarship. The deadline for the scholarship application is Friday, April 15, 2022. To be eligible you must live in Lisle, attend a high school located in Lisle, or be a child of a parent that works for a Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce member. Our Scholarship Committee will meet shortly after that to select the student that will receive the scholarship. Do you like to Golf? We are seeking event sponsors, hole sponsors and golfers for the Annual Golf Outing at Seven Bridges Golf Club on July 12th with a shot gun start at 1:00pm. Would you like to donate a raffle prize? Contact the Chamber if you would like to donate a raffle or Silent Auction item. Check our website soon to register for the Golf Outing and Early Bird rates that you will not want to miss. Claudine will be sending out a sponsorship form to your email in the near future. 

We are excited that the French Market opening day is Saturday, May 7th at 8:00am – 1:00pm. The French Market is adjacent to PrairieWalk Pond (between Main Street and Rte. 53) on Garfield Avenue. Vendors change weekly so each time you visit the market it is a unique experience. As a Chamber Member benefit you may put your business cards or information at the Chamber table at the Market. Drop off your literature to us and we will make sure it gets to the Market. Paula Gleason the French Market Supervisor is asking for volunteers to help set up and take down the market. You can volunteer for one weekend or multiple weekends. Let us know if you can spend some time on a Saturday volunteering at the French Market.
