Diversity & Cultural Competency in Public Health Settings - Basic Level
Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide public health practitioners with the awareness and knowledge to incorporate diversity and cultural competency concepts, tools, and techniques into their daily work. It is expected that by the end of this course that each participant will be conversant in issues related to culture and health, health disparities, and community health models designed to close the gap in health disparities.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the demographic and epidemiological trends related to diverse populations in the United States and abroad
- Conceptualize cultural competency and compare and contrast with diversity
- Identify a framework to design culturally competent public health care services for diverse populations

Louisiana Hurricane Response Hub
The Louisiana Hurricane Response Hub (LaHRH) curriculum was developed by the Louisiana Office of Public Health to provide general guidance and training to the public health workforce, response workers, volunteers, and community members who face hazards that arise after hurricanes and floods occur in Louisiana. The courses will increase awareness, understanding, and preparedness of events and hazards associated with hurricanes and floods in Louisiana communities.
The 4 courses in this curriculum cover topics related to general safety and health considerations, heat-related illness, private water wells, and mold exposure. Local resources related to Louisiana hurricane preparedness and recovery are provided to strengthen community awareness and resilience.
Courses in the LaHRH course bundle include:
