Introducing new gallery artist
Anke Schofield!
Michael Murphy Gallery is excited to announce Anke Schofield as a new gallery artist. Her mixed media pieces combine the elegance of fashion portraits with surreal collage.
Anke Schofield was born in Ithaca, New York in 1972 and was apprenticed as a professional photographer assistant when she was still in the 8th grade. Her father introduced her to the wonders of the camera early in life. Anke took the form readily and with enthusiasm.

During high school, Anke apprenticed with a number of artists in the New York area. She was awarded a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design where she earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art. Throughout this period, Anke pursued her studies of color theory and painting, continuing to find in these endeavors greater creative stimulus and inspiration than she had known in her photographic work.
Anke has been working professionally as a fine art painter for the past five years.
“My work is inspired photographically,” says Anke, “but I take it beyond the ordinary representation to create a harmonious blend of textures with composition.”

Banksy
The sale of a Banksy anti-war artwork raised funds for a Kyiv hospital. Article excerpt below:
"The sale of an anti-war piece of artwork by Banksy has raised £81,000 for a Ukrainian children's hospital.
An anonymous donor auctioned the Bristol-based artist's 2005 piece titled CND Soldiers.
It features two soldiers graffitiing the symbol of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament on a wall.
It was sold earlier via an online auction and funds from the sale will be donated to Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv.
It is Ukraine's largest children's hospital and cares for critically ill children as well of anyone injured in the war triggered by Russia's invasion last month."

World Renowned Multimedia Artist DALEK To Drop NFT Collaboration With Generative Artworks On Doodle Labs Platform. Article excerpt below:

John Douglas
John Douglas has stepped up as Aerosmith's drummer during Joey Kramer’s temporary leave of absence. Article excerpt below:
"In a statement to USA Today, Aerosmith said Kramer 'regrettably made the decision to sit out the band's concerts in 2022 so he can focus his full attention on his family during these uncertain times.'
They added that 'he and the band look forward to his future performances with Aerosmith' and said drum tech John Douglas would occupy the kit during Kramer's furlough..."

A Brighton gallery raised thousands for a school from an art sale featuring artwork from leading contemporary artists including Magnus Gjoen. Article excerpt below:
"A gallery has raised £5,500 from the sale of limited editions and original artworks for a primary school.
Based in Bond Street in Brighton, Enter Gallery's three-day Sample Sale gave customers the chance to snap up framed and unframed artworks from leading contemporary artists like Pure Evil, Patrick Hughes, Eelus and Magnus Gjoen.
Money from the gallery's sale went towards Middle Street Primary School in Brighton."

World-famous street artist Pure Evil is hosting a special event at a Peterborough museum. Article excerpt below:

Terri Dilling
Gallery artist Terri Dilling is being featured in a show highlighting the works of eight artists who participated in a special artists' residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) in Florida. Article excerpt below:
"For the past two years Louisa Gould, owner of the Louisa Gould Gallery, has been running an artists’ residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) in Florida. This year she is presenting the work of the eight artists (including herself) who participated in the residency last November in a show titled 'Abstracts Abound.'
...the one-week residency is restricted to mid-career full-time artists, and focuses exclusively on abstract work. It is not a workshop offering instruction, but is intended to offer a focused period for artists to dedicate to creating new work, away from the cares and distractions of everyday life."

Project Highlight
This month we're highlighting a fun art and framing project that recently left our framing desk! A client of ours fell in love with this beautiful diptych, "Receiving Love I & II," by gallery artist Amy Donaldson. They were looking for a frame for the piece that would match their space - a room with black walls and classic furnishings - while also bringing out the Japanese feel of the cherry blossoms in the painting.
Michael Murphy's frame design met and exceeded their expectations. Featuring a hand-carved, 22-karat gold traditional Japanese design on black lacquer, each frame was custom-built extra deep to fit the 2.5" stretcher bars that structure each painting. The final result: one-of-a-kind frames that perfectly enhance the artwork and the room they're in.
