April 2022 Newsletter
Letter from LCAC Executive Director:

Slowly, we see the blossoms of Spring all around us. The cycles of nature ebbing and flowing before our eyes. A beautiful sight indeed.

I want to share a special project in the works since August 2021. We have been teaming up with our partners and friends to redesign LCAC’s Youth + Artist programs to prepare the next generation of public artists, in creative skills, mentorship and professional development. We have been supporting an aspiring high school artist, Tyson, by partnering him with established artists Victor Escobedo and Anthony Garcia Sr.

I am very proud of the evolution the Artist Training Program we launched during early COVID is undergoing! A special thank you to Councilwoman, Jamie Torres, the Denver Foundation, Denver Arts and Venues, and the Commanders Fund for supporting this project!

In Solidarity,
Alfredo Reyes
A Note from LCAC Board Member:

I’m happy to announce that Hecho en Colorado is traveling to El Pueblo Museum from May 3rd through the end of the year! It highlights the cultural excellence contributed by Chicano and Mexicano artists who have called Colorado home over the last forty years. If you missed the exhibit at History Colorado in 2020, this is another chance to see some highlights from our family’s collection.

I want to encourage you to purchase Mother’s Day gifts from Hijos del Sol and support our artisans May 7th, from 10am-4pm. Stop by the mural unveiling at 14th / Avondale, from 1-4pm, while you're in the neighborhood.

Enjoy the blessings of Springtime!

A Note from LCAC Team Member:

Two hours south of Denver, you will catch the tangy aroma of the Pueblo Green Chile in a community built of steel. This place where I grew up empowered me to explore my creativity. I still carry the lessons I learned about guiding others toward social change through music and theater. I am proud to be part of the LCAC Team, where we continue to make history in Colorado through our leadership & partnerships.

As we create change and build on the legacies of our ancestors, it is important to remember the roots of our journey, and honor those who have come before. I want to personally invite you to join the LCAC and me at the Hecho en Colorado opening in Pueblo, Colorado on May 3, 2022 at 5pm.

Let us celebrate our history, together.

Rocky Mountain PBS: How 3 Denver Exhibitions are Honoring La Malinche (VIDEOS + ARTICLE)
"The latest exhibition contributing to La Malinche’s moment in Denver is at the CU Denver Experience Gallery, formerly known as Next Stage gallery. The exhibition, 'Malintzin: Unraveled and Rewoven,' focuses on the importance of textiles and fashion in her ancient story.

'Clothing is such a powerful way to communicate who we are, what we stand for, and what our status is at a glance; That was true back then and it’s still true now. The clothing we wear definitely sends a signal of who we are and what we believe in, and so I wanted to create a show to illustrate that purpose,' said Lilian Lara, the artist and curator from the LCAC. 'The exhibition seeks to humanize Malintzin through textiles, helping viewers understand the ways in which their story can connect to hers.'
