Ukraine Humanitarian Relief
World Trade Center Delaware has received a number of questions about the situation in Ukraine and requests for assistance and is doing its part to help with securing or shipping humanitarian supplies for Ukraine. As in all disaster and conflict situations, aid is best left to the experts to avoid clogging supply chains with inappropriate items or endangering the local population and aid workers. We encourage you to send cash to verified international aid organizations working in the region rather than trying to send shipments of supplies on your own. (https://www.cidi.org/disaster-responses/war-in-ukraine/).
The US Department of Commerce has issued a list of needed medical supplies and is coordinating with companies that are able to make the appropriate donations. For the list of specific items needed, please contact us at info@wtcde.com.
Long term refugee assistance: Refugee Integration Support Effort (RISE) https://www.jfsdelaware.org/family-support/refugees/ of Jewish Family Service Delaware is the only resettlement agency in the state. JFS RISE operates in partnership with HIAS, one of the nine national resettlement agencies to assist refugees from all over the world, most recently from Afghanistan.
Russia/Belorussia Sanctions: In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. Department of Commerce through the Bureau of Industry and Security of the US Government have issued new sanctions and expanded others with regards to Russia and Belorussia. These rules will protect U.S. national security and foreign policy interests.
A US Department of Commerce Fact Sheet can be found at:
Summer Travel
The nice weather reminds us that it is time to finalize summer travel plans before planes, trains, hotels and national parks here and abroad, are completely booked. If the last two years have taught us anything, it is that travel plans can be disrupted. Don’t forget about checking the US Department of State Travel Advisories before you hit the “pay” button on the reservation site. These are constantly updated. While on the web site, be sure to register for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). It is a FREE service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. You will receive information from the US Embassy about local conditions, help the Embassy contact you in any type of emergency, and help your family and friends reach you in an emergency. https://step.state.gov/. Finally, make sure you have travel insurance.
