Fallon Leyba
Gads Hill Center
Fallon Leyba is a poet, visual artist, and textile artist from the Sonoran Desert. After earning their BA in Moral Politics and Law (ASU), BA in Creative Writing (ASU), and MFA in Writing (SAIC), Fallon has built on their passion for social justice by diving head-first into the non-profit writing sector. During the past year, they have had the pleasure of representing Gads Hill Center in two fellowships (Northwestern University Racial Equity Summit, TRHT T.H.E Fellowship).
|
|
As a member of these fellowship cohorts, they collaborated with other organizations to develop the capacity of Chicago non-profits to be social justice leaders in our communities. In their free time, Fallon enjoys rock climbing, playing video games, and hanging out with their dog Salem.

Introducing the Spring 2023 Peer Mentoring Cohort
By Noelle Moore, Senior Executive Director
The Hospice and Palliative Foundation (HAP)
Learning opportunities and networking are the primary reasons I have been an AFP Chicago member for over 25 years. In my early years of membership, I had a lot to learn and attended many (in person!) seminars and lunchtime learning gatherings. I met fundraisers at other organizations who faced similar challenges or had overcome obstacles I was facing. More experienced members of our profession were generous with advice from their experience and introduced me to others in their network.

|
Even in today’s hybrid work world, AFP members are eager to learn, share experiences, and connect with one another through our chapter’s Peer Mentoring program. Over several weeks, potential protégés and mentors applied to the program. The Committee worked to make thoughtful matches among the applicants and assign a committee liaison to each pair and is pleased to welcome ten protégé and mentor pairs to the Spring 2023 Cohort. Their year-long learning and networking partnerships began with our Kick-Off event on March 31.
The Spring 2023 Cohort members are:
-
Gina Fanady, MPS, Safer Foundation (protégé) and Jill Zimmerman, Greater Chicago Food Depository (mentor)
-
Carlos García León, Chicago Shakespeare Theater (protégé) and Carlos Trejo, CFRE, Surge Institute (mentor)
