Meet Hobart

Well, hey there! My name is Hobart. Everyone calls me a “Goofball,” I’m not sure what that means but I know it has the word “ball” in it! Bringing a smile to my person’s face is what I do best and I’m ready to make every day as fun as I can. I think I’m the happy, funny pup for you!

P.S. Hobart and many other adult dogs (2 years of age or older) are currently adoptable during our Name Your Price adoption event now through April 30th! Will one be your new best buddy?

Early Giving is Now Open for GiveBIG

Mark your calendars to help pets in need! GiveBIG is coming up on May 2nd and 3rd! This statewide fundraising campaign encourages individuals and organizations to come together, invest in our community and raise funds for lifesaving programs!

And the best part? Every dollar you give on our GiveBIG page will be matched up to $25,000 thanks to our friends at Larson Automotive Group! As a result, your gift to the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County will have twice the impact.

Early Giving is open now, so you don’t have to wait a moment longer to double your donation and save twice as many animals!

Poorly Drawn Pets was a huge success!

The 4th Annual Poorly Drawn Pets fundraiser was a record-breaking event, and the support of our animal-loving community blew us away! We received around 1,450 submissions, 4.5X more than last year, and raised $30,759 for pets in need. Due to the viral success of this event, our dedicated volunteers spent six full days drawing pictures!

Thank you for your patience as we send back the completed drawings to each participant. If you have not received your drawing yet, please reach out to us at development@thehumanesociety.org.

Kitten Shower

Thanks to our generous community, we raised $8,454 and received 735 essential items during this year’s Kitten Shower! Your donations and donated items will ensure that the many kittens coming through our doors get the care they need to get adopted into loving families.

Saving the lives of thousands of cats and kittens in our region would not be possible without you – thank you!

We are so grateful for our Kitten Shower sponsors, Commencement Bank and Larson Automotive Group! Thank you for partnering with us to impact the tiniest lives.

Staff Spotlight: Leslie Dalzell, CEO

Last month, Leslie Dalzell was named the new CEO of the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County. As our former CFO since 2018, she's no stranger to the shelter. Get to know Leslie better in this month's Staff Spotlight!

Dogs Playing for Life

We recently received a grant from Dogs Playing for Life! It was wonderful to be able to share this dog socialization and enrichment training through play groups with over a dozen other rescues and shelters across our region.

This training will help improve the quality of life for thousands of dogs awaiting homes throughout Washington state! We are so grateful to be able to host this life changing learning opportunity.

Home To Home

Home To Home is a free rehoming and foster website for pet owners who need to find a new or temporary home for their pets including dogs, cats, and other animals. Pets can go from one home right into another without having to come to the shelter, which means less stress for animals and humans alike!

You can help a pet stay out of the shelter by registering online to become a Home To Home foster for a family pet in need!
