First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is an annual celebration held by the American Library Association highlighting the valuable roles our nation's libraries, librarians, and library workers play in strengthening the community. The theme for National Library Week 2023 is "There's More to the Story." While most people know the wealth of stories and novels available at libraries, there is so much more to the story. Many libraries now offer museum passes, games, musical instruments, and tools. By expanding their resources, libraries advance communities by providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support to students, job seekers, businesses, and entrepreneurs. Although the methods, technology, and role of libraries have changed in the past 60 years, the goal of bringing communities together through education, entertainment, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, and lectures remain steadfast. |
