A More Holy Easter Week

The April 2023 Liahona contained several pages offering ideas to help us to focus on the Savior during the week prior to Easter. Each day reviews what was taking place in Jesus’ life the week before Easter. We are invited to contemplate and reflect on His life and the powerful impact that His life has on us. The article states that President Nelson has encouraged us to make the week before Easter more Holy and reviewing the Savior’s last week of mortal life will do just that. Here is a brief outline of what is covered :

  • The reflections begin with Palm Sunday, which is the Sunday before Easter.
  • Monday’s reflection includes the cursing of the fig tree.
  • Tuesday’s reflection examines the authorities who questioned Jesus.
  • Wednesday’s reflection contains the women who cleansed Jesus’ feet.
  • Thursday’s reflection centers around the Last Supper.
  • Friday’s reflection describes Christ’s crucifixion.
  • Saturday’s reflection talks about while Jesus’ body was in the tomb, His spirit went to paradise.
  • Sunday’s reflection, of course, involves the resurrection of Christ and it occurs on Easter Sunday, which is Sunday, April 9.

We should parallel our reflections on the corresponding days in 2023 beginning Palm Sunday on April 2. You will find the information on pages 8-17 in the April Liahona or in the Gospel Library App under Magazines and then Liahona – April 2023.  In the suggested reflections, there are scriptures to review, topics for discussion, art to contemplate, and music to listen to. There is so much great information and I feel strongly that if we take the opportunity to reflect on the Savior’s life the week before Easter, that our Easter season will be more meaningful and holy.

Food for Thought

From Our Church Leaders

Three observations to help us gain more faith.

(Come Follow Me, April 10-16)

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland taught:

After retelling the account found in Mark 9:14–29, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland taught:

“Observation number one regarding this account is that when facing the challenge of faith, the father asserts his strength first and only then acknowledges his limitation. His initial declaration is affirmative and without hesitation: ‘Lord, I believe.’ I would say to all who wish for more faith, remember this man! In moments of fear or doubt or troubling times, hold the ground you have already won, even if that ground is limited. …

“The second observation is a variation of the first. When problems come and questions arise, do not start your quest for faith by saying how much you do not have, leading as it were with your ‘unbelief.’ … I am not asking you to pretend to faith you do not have. I am asking you to be true to the faith you do have. …

“Last observation: When doubt or difficulty come, do not be afraid to ask for help. If we want it as humbly and honestly as this father did, we can get it.”

(“Lord, I Believe", Ensign or Liahona, May. 2013)

Sincerely,
