April 2023 Newsletter

81st General Convention

June 23 - 28, 2024

Louisville, Kentucky

Nominations: Submit Applications by April 30th

The Joint Standing Committee on Nominations is inviting nominations for various churchwide roles for elections taking place at GC81. These leadership bodies continue the work of the church between General Conventions and applicants need not be deputies to General Convention, only members in good standing of The Episcopal Church.

You are encouraged to look through the job descriptions and consider whether you or someone you know might have the gifts and skills needed to serve in this way. Job descriptions (including time and travel commitments), as well as applications in English, Spanish, and French, are available on the General Convention Website

Joint Budget Committee: Update

The Committee held a successful listening session earlier in the month. Over 20 people testified on a variety of topics and more than 125 people attended as observers. The Committee was also collecting written feedback and will post a report when it is ready.

You can follow the work of the Joint Budget Committee by visiting their website here.

Interim Bodies

Interim Bodies Currently Meeting in Baltimore

Additional Interim Bodies are meeting and beginning their work together in Baltimore this week. While many of the groups primarily do their work online, these in person meetings are beneficial by allowing them to deep dive into the work they are doing together, form relationships, and consult with the GCO staff. For this meeting, the following Interim Bodies are present:

  • Standing Commission on Formation and Ministry Development
  • Standing Commission on World Mission
  • Task Force on Communion Across Difference
  • Task Force on Dialogue with South Sudanese Anglican Diaspora
  • Task Force on Translation and Interpretation
  • Task Force on the State of Membership in The Episcopal Church
  • Task Force to Study Congregational Vitality Indicators
  • Task Force on Imagining a Church Grounded in Social Justice as a Christian Ministry
  • Task Force to Advise the Church on Denominational Health Plans

Data and Learning

Share Your Stories of Ministry - FACT 2023 Survey

If you haven't done so already, staff or parish leadership are invited to participate in a multi-faith survey of congregational life in America. It is being conducted in partnership with the Exploring the Pandemic Impact on Congregations study, which is actively researching change and innovation in the American religious landscape as a result of COVID-19. Learn more about this study at: covidreligionresearch.org.

The survey can be completed by staff or parish leadership, and it is available here. Aggregate results will be shared online at faithcommunitiestoday.org in the coming months. If you have questions regarding this survey, please contact [email protected]. Thank you for your participation in this important national study, and blessings on your ministry!
