City of Lethbridge adopts new Heritage Management Plan

On March 7th 2023 the Lethbridge City Council voted unanimously to adopt the 2023 City of Lethbridge Heritage Management Plan (HMP). This is the first heritage management plan in the history of the City, and among the first in Canada, to be inclusive of Indigenous heritage in urban context......

The Prentice Institute's Rachel McNally recently published an article titled: "Equally Public and Private Refugee Resettlement: The Historical Development of Canada’s Joint Assistance Sponsorship Program" for Refuge: Canada’s Journal on Refugees.

The Prentice Institute's Stacey Haugen spoke at the American Association of Geographers meeting in Denver, CO, from March 23-27. Her presentation was titled: “Finding Refuge in Rural Places: Exploring the Opportunities and Challenges of Refugee Resettlement in Smaller Communities in Canada and Beyond”

Poll shows rural Albertans opposed to provincial police force

An online survey in February delivered by Leger and sponsored by the University of Lethbridge’s Prentice Institute for Global Population and Economy and the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) shows a distinct lack of support for the creation of a provincial police force among rural Albertans.

Get Connected, Become an Affiliate

The Prentice Institute accepts applications for affiliation year-round. Affiliates are eligible to apply for a variety of grant funds offered by the Institute.

The International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM) and the Intersections of Gender Signature Area at the University of Alberta are presenting Thinking Qualitatively: Doing Intersectionality (TQ:DI) - the 21st annual Thinking Qualitatively conference.

There is currently a petition before the House of Commons to increase the number and value of Tri-Council Scholarships. These scholarships are tremendously important to graduate students and include SSHRC funding at both the masters and doctoral level (CGS-M and CGS-D). These scholarships have not increased monetarily in nearly two decades and with our current levels of inflation, are more important than ever.
