Executive Director's Message
Dear ACT Team,
Saying how proud I am of each and every one of you is an understatement. Even though I do not see you all working, I hear from supervisors, and I see overall results in how much our consumers are learning. This brings me tremendous joy!

In order to continue providing the best quality services for our consumers, we need to invest in ourselves and learn as much as we can. Recently we had an informative training for BIs by our wonderful provider, Xiomara Lopez, on a much-needed topic to learn, Self-Stimulatory behaviors. We also had a training for our PCs and Providers by Dr. Cynthia Conway, who has a doctorate in Occupational Therapy and is also a BCBA. This was her second time providing training for our team and sharing her knowledge with us. We also had a training for our Staffing coordinators and Recruiting team on Customer Service as we know we can always improve on any skills. ACT is committed to quality trainings for our team members to continue learning and improving skills to achieve our goal of serving our community the best we can.

Congrats to a group of ACT providers for attending the California Association for Behavior Analysis conference (CalABA). We can't wait for you to share what you learned at the conference and apply it into our consumers' programming.

Last month we celebrated Cristina Aparicio and Jennifer Guerrero for celebrating their 10-year anniversary at ACT! Your loyalty and dedication to your consumers and colleagues is admirable! Congratulations to Serani for her promotion to PC in Van Nuys. She has worked very hard these past several years and her promotion is well deserved. Your BIs are lucky to learn from you!

Have a wonderful month!

Congratulations on completing 10 years with ACT!
Wow, I honestly can't believe it's been ten years since I first started working with ACT. When I first started working with ACT, I experienced a number of emotions. Initially I left thrilled; I was excited to get to put into practice what I had learned in my undergraduate studies while studying at CSUN. While at CSUN I had heard about Behavior Therapists, their roles in the improvement of the lives of individuals on the spectrum, and the impact they made on the lives of those they served. Alter completing my fourth shadowing session I was ready to be assigned to my first case. When starting on my first assignment I felt nervous and scared. I remember being told once that feeling nervous or scared was understandable because this field and this job responsibility was new to me, yet I should know that no human being is born knowing anything in life, one must learn it. Over these ten years working with ACT, I have learned many things. I have learned that we should be patient, we should always be consistent, and that we should work collaboratively because we are all a team. I honestly feel as Professionals we must truly love what we do to do our job, and to do so great. I love this profession and my job because I like children, I enjoy playing with them, and watching them learn. Seeing consumers I have worked with learn the skills or acquisitions that we have taught them, seeing them, master those skills, and knowing that our consumers have generalized those skills across people, materials, and settings makes me happy, it creates a sense of satisfaction, and this makes our job rewarding.

Hello, my name is Jennifer Guerrero. I have been working as a behavior instructor at ACT for 10 years. I have enjoyed getting to know my consumers and their families and the mentorship I have received from all of my PCs over the years. As a BI, working directly with the consumers and being part of the process is rewarding to be able to witness their progress. There are moments of difficulties and new challenges when working with consumers, but, with the guidance of many PCs by implementing many strategies, we were able to impact the consumers by helping promote their overall growth of each individual. As a BI, it took patience, passion, adaptability, motivation, hard work, and a positive attitude to continue to work in this field. I am looking forward to continuing to work with the team at ACT.
