Upcoming Writing Workshops

Upcoming writing classes are scheduled with staggered start dates throughout the spring and summer to keep students engaged and writing productively all year long.

New to SAS faculty, Brian Feinblum will reveal tricks from the book marketing and publishing trade to help students Successfully Publish Your Book (Course 11891). Learn the pros and cons of going through traditional trade, university press, small press, hybrid, or self-publishing. Find out how to win over book publishers and literary agents, how to make sure that your book is promoted, and how to position yourself for the next book deal. Class meets over the course of two Wednesday evenings, starting April 26, 2023.

Nancy Kessler will offer both May and August afternoon sessions of her popular class, Finding Your Voice through Memoir Writing. Course 11874 begins Tuesday, May 16, 2023, and meets for six weeks. The summer session, Course 11875, begins Tuesday, August 1, 2023, and meets for four weeks. Through provocative and probing questions, group discussion, and reminiscing, students will begin the process of organizing and presenting their life stories in writing. By the end of the course, students will have the start of a full memoir.

Amy Ralston Seife, who is currently teaching Getting to the Heart of It, a workshop for prose writers of all levels, will debut a new afternoon class, Mothers and Daughters, a Creative Writing Workshop (Course 11878) on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Students will read published essays, fiction, and poetry pertaining to the complex relationship between mothers and daughters and receive weekly prompts based on these examples to write about their own experiences as a child and/or as a parent of any gender. Feedback will be offered in a safe and encouraging environment. Class size is limited in order to ensure individualized attention.

Aspiring writers of all levels are welcome to each course. Register now to ensure your spot.
