What's Happening at St. Bon's?

We've been busy learning, traveling, exploring and making memories during and since returning from Easter break - here are some of the highlights from the last month that we would love to share:

  • During Easter break, our Music Department was very excited to resume its biennial European performance tours. They travelled to beautiful Portugal with a contingent of 95 students, teachers, alumni and family members. This was the eighth European country that our Music Department has had the privilege of visiting since starting our European performance tours fourteen years ago. In Portugal, they visited Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra, Aveiro, Fatima and Porto. Our Wind Ensemble, Traditional Jazz Combo and Madrigal Choir had the amazing experience of participating in three school exchanges and even had the opportunity to perform combined pieces with two of the schools. Students particularly enjoyed connecting with the Portuguese students during the school exchanges. A visit to the shrine in Fatima was a very powerful one for all of the travellers. They also had a traditional Portuguese Fado dinner in a palace built in the 1600’s and a Brazilian evening complete with music and dancing!

  • Our SBC Hockey Team took their love of the game overseas to the Czech Republic. Live streamed games were available so loved ones and fans back home could cheer them on as they battled their competitors!

  • St. Bon's received a visit from Darin King and Victoria Battcock of Trades NL who presented our school with the Education School Grant to support our Learning Commons. A big thank you to Trades NL!

  • April 22nd was the 54th celebration of Earth Day. As part of the SBC celebration our student EcoSchool Committee led a school and community clean-up. The Grade 8 Socials class dove in (almost literally) to clean up a section of Kelly's Brook- including a shopping cart in the watercourse!

  • We held an Oratorical Showcase, which featured amazing work by our Junior and Senior High students who choose great topics and presented strong speeches. Well done to all involved!

  • Our Traditional Jazz Combo, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and Symphonic Band took part in the Rotary Music Festival at MUN School of Music D.F. Cook Recital Hall this week. Their performances were wonderful. Check out a little sample of our Phoenix Jazz Band HERE. Bravo to all our performers and their teachers!

  • We have some budding engineers in Grade 3. Students came up with some incredible designs for a bridge building competition. A special thank you going out to Grade 6 students for joining in the excitement to judge the final products.

  • Grade 8 Student, Gabriella K., took home first place in her age category at the NL Science Fair for the best biochemistry, nutrition or food science projects for her project entitled, "How Sweet It Is: The Scientific Truth about the Healthy Policy for Retail". The Memorial University Department of Biology also awarded Grade 8 students, Ryan P. and Eloise L. for their project entitled, "What's Your Vocal Range". Great job to all!
